I did, however, remember that back in the early 90s WKDV programmed a kiddie format (W KiDs V according to Wikipedia) from something called Radio Aahs, before becoming Spanish. I was living in Fairfax Co. at that time. Between WPRW and the old WKDV I don't know what previous formats as I was attending college classes.
WPRW as far as I know was always at that site. Before the new 234 Bypass came through and Godwin drive was just a two lane (I remember it being gravel at one time ;D) it was out in the cornfields. Hard to imagine now though. If that was definitely in fact WPRW I can't say for sure, but I doubt it was anyone else at the time as there weren't many around that area then. WKCW was in Warrenton along with WPRZ, WPWC was in Dumfries (still is) WPIK/WXRA were in Woodbridge, and beyond that you had to go pretty far south for any other local AM's.
I grew up in Herndon, and I don't recall them being very easy to hear there back about 30 years or more ago, but, when I was in Manassas (had family there in Yorkshire) WPRW was playing beautiful music if memory serves me correctly.
