Thanks, I would appreciate that and look forward to your report.Zach said:I don't hear any trace of it during the day, but I'll listen for it next time I'm down on the beach with a good radio.
drt said:Hi Zach and perhaps even Cyberdad and anyone else who spends time on the Gulf between Mobile and the Florida Panhandle, are you able to hear the Cuban Classical station on 590 at all underneath WDIZ?Zach said:Here in Baldwin County, Alabama (Mobile suburbs) it's sports radio WDIZ out of Panama City. Especially near the beach, it puts out a pretty good signal during the day. At night, I have never ID'd anything that I can remember.
I would have thought with the waterpath over the Gulf it would be detectable, but of course if WDIZ's signal in that area is strong, that might not be possible unless WDIX is off the air for one reason or another.

Thanks for the report.Zach said:I checked 590 about an hour after sunset while in Destin two days ago and was shocked to hear WDIZ rather clearly. I realize they increase power at night to 2.5 kW but figured it wouldn't be enough to reach that far at night, even over a partial ocean path. I was wrong. The signal was good enough that I didn't notice any other audio in the background.

I will be in Baton Rouge this time next week for a week and it will be an interesting dx experience and for Radioman 148; I will check out all the Chicago 50,000 watt clear channels; haven't even had time to look up radio-locator for Baton Rouge yet to get an idea as to what to look for. Just hope I can do some decent dx'ing from the hotel room and my dx'ing time will be very limited.
