I don't hear any trace of it during the day, but I'll listen for it next time I'm down on the beach with a good radio.
Thanks, I would appreciate that and look forward to your report.

The Classical 590 from Cuba comes in with a strong enough signal in St. Pete , where there is a 590 about 125 air miles s.e. of here, that I can only sometimes hear under the Cuban station.

Here in Baldwin County, Alabama (Mobile suburbs) it's sports radio WDIZ out of Panama City. Especially near the beach, it puts out a pretty good signal during the day. At night, I have never ID'd anything that I can remember.
Hi Zach and perhaps even Cyberdad and anyone else who spends time on the Gulf between Mobile and the Florida Panhandle, are you able to hear the Cuban Classical station on 590 at all underneath WDIZ?

I would have thought with the waterpath over the Gulf it would be detectable, but of course if WDIZ's signal in that area is strong, that might not be possible unless WDIX is off the air for one reason or another.

I've never been able to hear (or at least identify) the Cuban classical station on the beach during the daytime....which always sort of surprised me. Fairly regular visitor at night, but the signal isn't all that great, and frequently gets lost in the slop. I'll be on the beach with a couple of portables and a good car radio later this week/weekend, so I'll see if it turns up during daylight.

I checked 590 about an hour after sunset while in Destin two days ago and was shocked to hear WDIZ rather clearly. I realize they increase power at night to 2.5 kW but figured it wouldn't be enough to reach that far at night, even over a partial ocean path. I was wrong. The signal was good enough that I didn't notice any other audio in the background.

Thanks for the report.

I will be in Baton Rouge this time next week for a week and it will be an interesting dx experience and for Radioman 148; I will check out all the Chicago 50,000 watt clear channels; haven't even had time to look up radio-locator for Baton Rouge yet to get an idea as to what to look for. Just hope I can do some decent dx'ing from the hotel room and my dx'ing time will be very limited.

I read on here three or four years ago that you could hear XEFD under KLBJ as close as 60 miles south of Austin.

I posted something to that effect a couple of years ago. Someone else was more precise, stating that the signals clashed about 65 miles south of Austin. Next time I'm down that way I'll check it out again. For me it's nothing but KLBJ all the time, with a signal strength of roughly 35mV/m daytime and 15mV/m at night; their towers are about seven miles away.

Thanks drt!

As posted in another thread, I was in Louisvile, KY, last night with multiple strong Cuban signals....including the classical music station on 590. Pretty much alone on the channel....no trace of WVLK or anything else of consequence.

Tonight I'm in Gulf Shores, AL, and I'm also hearing them...but mixed with other stuff.
