There was a guy who used to do overnights a few years ago. I don't think I ever knew his name, but he sounded like a black man. There was also John King, who has probably worked at every radio station in Jackson. At Y, he went by the name of Chris McKay, doing middays. Also, don't forget about the guy who currently does overnights and Saturday middays. I think his name is Tim.

There is someone doing overnights and weekends at Y101 named Tim? I remember a black guy who used to do overnights and weekends last year his name was George King.

P.W. Records (probably not his real name) was the guy did Y101 overnight a few years ago.

Ah, where to start? 10 years of Y-101 and lots of changes...First off, I am extremely proud to have been a part of Y for three of those ten years. Those were some of the best times I've had in my life. We all had our ups and downs, but the team we had with Scott & EJ, myself, Nick Vance in the afternoons and Kris Fisher at night, well, it wasn't just a team, but a family. We were what an air staff should be...on the same page. I developed some lifelong friendships in my time there. Saturday Night Y was a blast to make, and one poster compared it to having fingernails pulled out...which I can understand. It probably sounded like an absolute cluster at times, but we had a great time doing it regardless. Keep in mind that it was a concept and an experiement...Nick's brainchild. He presented the idea to me one night when he had to pick me up from Smith-Wills on Y-101 night when our station Suburban broke down in the parking lot. The concept was to get the entire staff together in a morning show format and see what happens. It was never perfect, but we did get some good numbers off it, a lot of loyal SNY listeners, and one unofficial sponsor. From remotes at The Dock or Bermuda Beach Club to Y-101 nights at the Senators games, we had one hell of a station. That was then and this is now. I think John is doing a great job with the station, and while my departure from Y was sooner than I wanted it to be, that's just radio for you. Bob and Chris have built a fantastic morning show, Lauren sounds solid, John is John, and Nate is a lowdown piece of crap (and I say that because he's one of my good friends in this business). I'm sure I could rant on, and I will eventually, because my time at Y-101 (say what you will about working for New South...we each have our own experiences) is something that I will always have with me. Cheers! The One And Only Chaps Man

Yep Matt, we miss ya in Jackson, what station are you at now? Anywayz.. you're right, Nick was good... I think he and EJ are unemployed (out of biz) now and Kris is in Augusta, GA at WHHD-FM... which is good for him, thats where he's from. Scott Steele was a good lead host for EJ during the "Scott & EJ Morning Show".. he kinda vanished from Jackson airwaves for awhile after his dismissal from WYOY-FM. Scott is now doing mornings at WUSJ US 96.3... Speaking of former Y staff, I forgot to add one: Benji Kurtz, he was PD for a while at WYOY Y101.7... anyone got access to Y101.7's old logo?

I'm at Clear Channel in Memphis now, doing weekends on Rock 103, one of my all time favorites as well as producing and reporting on our Total Traffic Network. I also have my real estate license now and am selling real estate and living in Oxford. Things are good and getting better, but I do miss working in the Jackson market sometimes. Nick was a great program director and a great guy to work for. He was really someone you could go to with your problems. Scott is an excellent morning guy and he will do well at WUSJ. He and I have stayed in touch over the years and he is excited to be back. (He wasn't dismissed from Y however, he left of his own accord.)I forgot about Benji. He left shortly before I got there and I never got to work for him and I've never met him. Fun times my friend...we really had them, but I absolutely love working at Clear Channel in Memphis. It's a truly amazing cluster with a lot of great people, and I hope it becomes a full-time gig soon. MC

Matt-I've been meaning to post somewhere (but where?) that I've been hearing you on the radio. It'a always interesting to be able to put a voice with the names one has seen posting here on the board. Welcome to town! RG

I've been told by a New South employee that things around there are so much better now, since chain-smokin' Eddie gave up his control of the company. I hear that the people around there are more excited about their jobs and is much more relaxed.

I've heard the same thing. My understanding is that Clay is running the show now, and he is definitely much easier to deal with than Eddie. I hear that Eddie is not in great health, and I hate to hear that. Despite the many opinions of him, he and I never had any problems. One of the best Eddie moments (at my expense of course) was when we were having a ratings party at Red, Hot And Blue. I walked in and sat down at the table and since I was one of the last ones, Eddie said "well Matt, I'll bet you've never had a going away party like this, have you?" My heart stopped for a split second as he got this evil grin on his face. I always enjoyed working there, but some days, there was a tension in the air that you could cut with a knife...and you felt it the minute you walked in the building. MC

Clay is running the show these days. I hate to hear that about Eddie, too, if indeed his health is not that good. No matter how bad a person could be, you never want to wish something bad like that on anyone.
