100.3..Sports on FM It just sounds like Music!

Since 1320 is for sale,He could add it to his cluster of AM's and put CBS Sports Radio on it, was my comment. WQRT even though it was News Talk, 1160 had more local sports hosts and content than 100.3 The Fan ever had.

And, before Arbitron shut down we had better numbers than 100.3 but, it is like straining at gnats.

I'd buy it, and move "Inspiration 1050" to the 1320 signal. Then move Christian talk WCVX back to 1050. That'd put CBS Sports Radio on the much stronger 1160 signal. I know jry is happy with the way things are running now with 1050 and 1160, but it WOULD seem appropriate to put CBS on 1160, since 1160 still has rights to Notre Dame football and, I believe, NKU basketball (and because people were actually listening to Jim Rome when he was on 100.3, based on the comments I've read).

1160 DID have more actual commercials than The Fan. Never heard any PSA's on 1160, whereas we heard the Peace Core PSA all day on 100.3, even during the local shows.

Yes 1160 had more local sports teams but probably weren't making any revenue from having said teams. That'd explain why they didn't re-up with the Cyclones after the 2011-2012 season (I've been told they only made maybe $50 per Cyclones broadcast). That might explain why The Fan didn't go after the Florence Freedom, who went to 1320. Not sure why The Fan got the Cyclones. Couldn't have made much more off them than 1160 did.

As for who had more local sports hosts and such, The Fan actually had more local sports talk during the weekday (7 hours) than 1160 did (four hours, all in the afternoon). The Fan also had the local "Baseball Tonight" on weekends and the Motorsport Nation show on Sunday. 1160 didn't have any local weekend sports content, except for the Bengals' call-in show.

I think you could say that 1160 had more "local" than The Fan, when you add the morning content. You're right that The Fan had a good bit of "local".

We made good money doing the smaller sports teams. The Cyclones paid more than 50..... I think that they had organizational problems.

1050 is in the correct format, especially with it's night signal. 1160 is doing more for the clients that moved over than 1050 did. I cannot see putting that genie back in the bottle.

1320? Who knows. This gets back to an old discussion about how many Cincy area stations could disappear and no one would notice.

1160 may have a limited night signal, but it's not nearly as limited as 1320's and 1050's.

And the area that 1160 covers at night benefits from the Christian Teaching format.

To me, this whole matter shows what's wrong with radio in this area. The station was given an all-sports format some seven months ago. Although I do question some of what was aired, it was an attempt to provide an alternative to sports informtion programming in this market. Then - just as many are looking toward fall sports such as high school football (which that station might have offered), etc. it changed formats to canned music - something that is basically available on many other stations. Just how serious was the ownership at making the sports format work there? Apparently not much.

The have added White Artists to the playlist the have added Hall & Oats - Sara Smile played it at around 4:55pm.

Hall & Oates are WHITE? No foolin'? ::)

Not only did Mojo play Hall & Oates, they are from a genre known as "blue eyed soul"... although, that term is probably more familiar outside of the culturally bankrupt borders that encompass southwest Ohio. ::)

You think they will play The original "Blue Eyed Soul" group The Righteous Brothers You Lost That Lovin Feelin which was also covered by Hall and Oats in the 80's? On a side note, Old School does seem like it does have a larger library than Mojo did.

Maybe R O thought that they were better than that. High School sports and second tier teams are beneath them.

Remember that Cincinnati is a great AM Market.

To jry I really enjoy your comments. You and I both show a passion for AM Radio. Most in the business have written off AM radio. They don't understand you can make a good living off AM radio in the right situation..

I had said before in other posts that Radio One could have done better if local and corporate management understood how to program a sports station, market it and sell it. They hired good talent in Gamble and Skinner but their FAN jobs were just a part time job for them. The station had no one hitting the street and really promoting the station at the various summer events and no one going to every service club they can find to speak to create a buzz.

Doing high school games will create a buzz for the station as well as building a great revenue base and market awareness for the station, There are a number of ways to make money in AM radio. Radio One could have made money off Reds and Bengals coverage. They had a solid Cincinnati Baseball Show at 6pm week nights but where was the revenue? They did not know how to sell it and market it.

You are correct Radio One did not know how to sell the format. If I ever heard that Joan Lunden PSA again I will through my radio in the trash can. In this day and age where terrestrial radio is researched and consulted to death I find it strange that they didn't have a game plan in launching the format correctly in a market where AM still is getting ratings and revenue.

Thank you for the kind words.
We had Jeff P from Fox Sports Ohio on and i think people were happy with that.
What you're saying is all good.
Thank God our audience hasn't written us off like the industry watchers have.

Whats the signal like? 3100 watts seems like it's far from "flame-thrower". Can that even penetrate a downtown office building?
