The event Mix 94.1 promoted and promoted and promoted, flopped.

The crowd was one of the smallest and least involved I've seen at a burnoff concert since the event moved to the Stark County Fairgrounds in 2003. There were maybe 100 people in the grandstand.

The singer of the Spin Doctors summed up the Mix 94.1 event very well.
Thank you for not making this a Blockbuster night.

Times have changed since WHK and WIXY promoted a group calling themselves the Beatles in 1964 and 1966---thousands and thousands packed the Stadium and Public Hall back then-boy how times have changed for radio station promotional concerts today-the public just doesn't seem to care anymore!!! Someone read this and said to me by phone tonight-"Looks like all of their listeners showed up".

The Spin Doctors haven't had a hit since the early 90's. Therein lies the problem.

If HBC had brought in a somewhat relevant artist, there would have been a lot more people interested. Hell, even small market-festival-playing mainstay Blessid Union Of Souls probably would have drawn more people than the Spin Doctors!

This was put together under Hunter's watch and not Jerry Mac's I assume?

By the way, what do you mean "National Concert"? How is a show at a county fair "National"??

"National," as in national band. National recording artist.

Uh... the station had no control over the all-mighty Hall of Fame committee-- which decides what shows to bring in. Year after year, they ask our opinion, but then ultimately do what they want.

Blessid Union of Souls has already done the Mix thing at least once if not twice..

Huey Lewis came in to see Joe Montana's induction a few years ago..otherwise its hit and miss as to which reasonably priced 80s or 90s recurrent act is 1) currently on tour and 2) willing to actually play Canton OH..

If you notice, many of the same acts play the Ribs events in Cleveland and sometimes in Akron just days after gracing the HOF Festival..

Its also a pretty well known fact that Dan Kane is not a fan of Mix 94.1...he's been pimping the Children of the Corn in Alliance for a while now..so if he can take a swipe, he will..

The country stations that promote shows generally have it easier..you can hit on an up and coming artist just about every year who is touring non stop and will play anywhere..AC and Rock stations have a more difficult time attracting an act that the target audience knows and actually wants to fight the sea of humanity that is the Ribs Burnoff to actually go see..

Congrats to the folks on Smyth. Looks like all you Children of the Corn haters are eating your humble pie...again! John IS a great programmer!

Also, looks like Hunter and Kennedy both deserve kudos for their work on Mix and MY

I think the Spin Doctors are scheduled to perform at the Republican National Convention... they'll probably have performed at a bigger event at the WHBC show! :D

Whaddya mean, 'humorous comment'? It's clear to the casual observer of this board that KY-media is so far up the lower intestine of John Baylo....whoops!...Stewart that he meant those words with all sincerity, and maybe somewhere he's got a point, so just leave WDJQZKLMNOPA&W-FM alone, please. Heck, I'm marking the calendar that this was the day SOT posted something without raking the cheese grater over Kayleigh Kriss!

Why come no one's brought up the Canton book, by the way? Is it because things did...or more importantly, DIDN'T...shake out the way they were expected to? Or is it really not worth caring about? Do the touters have nothing to tout about? Is there only so much pouting about that can be pouted...about?

Hmmmm..my glass is empty. Time for another round!

it is interesting that that Canton book has not been brought up. Makes ya go hmmmmm. ???

I agree with kentucky - John Stewart is a top notch programmer. I have to give credit to JStew on the fact that he is not a cookie-cutter.

Q92 had a very strong book. Huge 18-34 numbers. Deluca in AM drive is leading the way. Not that teens are a beauty contest, but Q had a over a 30 share with teens.

PS - I had a thought about John taking the PD gig (before they hired Chris "Beaver" Smith) at WABB in Mobile, he would have turned things around. I'm just glad they found someone there.

Maybe it's the 8.0 in afternoon drive on RQK (the lowest in years) in the demo their targeting!

Sounds like a former WRQK joxs Ego is still brusing from having their ratings bested by a jock in a box.

Clearly the answer for WRQK was/is and forever more...the radio magic that was Joe Kleon.

Or for those who enjoyed his special on backwards masking in 2006.....

Stewart/Baylor forgot to mention that magic is being wielded today on Deluca in the Morning on WZKQ-FM, 'Whatever Letter We Decide To Use This Week'92.

You're welcome, not JStew (insulting, indeed, to the guy with moles on his dome, dude).
