102.3 WWHK Concord NH - Classical Remakes of Rock Songs?

While in the Concord area this weekend, I noticed 102.3 WWHK was continuously playing only Classical remakes of Rock songs. I heard remakes of Beds Are Burning and Midnight Rider. At the top of the hour, a prerecoded I.D. plays saying "WWHK Concord. Classical versions of all your favorite rock songs."

It sounded like all the songs were recorded by the same classical orchestra since the instrumentation was virtually the same for all the music. No commercials, no news. Just these classical rock songs and the legal I.D.

I assume this is a station in the process of being sold? Very odd.

I think it has been sold, and this is what the new owners want. You are right, I read on this board in the past that it is one 'group' doing all the songs. Not my taste, but elevators in the capital area appreciate this (?) LOL

Yes, it is. It's been playing for 7 or 8 months now. I have no idea why...there's been zero revenue. I would have asked for another silent STA but what do I know?

You'd think they'd put something on that they could sell.

Anything can be canned...looped on some sort of automation. Maybe they're trying to get someone to buy it. With revenue that's a nice trick.

Who cares? No ones listening to that crap anyways, nothing good has been on this signal for years.

They were //WTPL 107.7 Hillsborough for awhile before this, and I think before they had to stop it, they were fairly successful as part of the "Hawk" duo with 101.5 Meredith, and even going back further, the "Outlaw 102.3" Country incarnation did a decent job...

Maybe I get lucky and 105 TOS would buy it
I can dream right ;)

I think every post from Jamie mentions 105 TOS ! TOS is so lucky to have such a fan. For the rockers, Concord is very much in Rock 101 WGIR-FM's turf. It is funny to walk into a business around Concord and hear 102.3 on.

Back in the day they use to call that Muzak.

Gadon, Lost my WCCC :( WAAF went soft, WBCN is gone, 102.3 burlington went top 40 (loved that station) TOS is my excitement to get away to the countryside from CT/NYC area. So wish someone would send me a link with a stream or I could pay to listen to TOS. for now I'm mostly spotify for cell service is spotty sometimes and internet streams will cut out.

Mr. Knight, I don't think it was deleted on purpose. This site has had posts and even entire subjects disappearing and reappearing in the past week. If you look at the subjects, you will see that with the exception of todays posts are from 5/26 or before. Well, that's as of 6:21 p.m. Heck, your last post may be gone by now. Mine might never post. Does your boss have something to do with this? Maybe it's the NSA.

Letter from the Managing Board Editor

Dear Users,

Many of you have encountered various problems with the boards. These issues have been particularly pronounced in the last couple of weeks. As promised by our head of IT in the post at the link below, our tech team has been working hard to upgrade the site.

http://radiodiscussions.com/smf/index.php?topic=235051.10

The first step of site improvements were implemented earlier today. We've moved the forums to a brand new server, so posts made after today will no longer go missing. The site was rolled back to May 27. This means that any changes made after that date will no longer appear on the site. If you made posts or created an account after that date, understand that those posts and accounts are gone. Our IT staff had no choice but to revert the site to the last date the boards were stable.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience these problems have caused. We ask for your continued patience as we bring new board software online. New and exciting changes are coming and your feedback is crucial to improving the site.

If you have any questions, feel free to email or PM me. You can also post queries on our Ask RadioDiscussions board at:

http://radiodiscussions.com/smf/index.php?board=316.0

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to share your responses and concerns. We empathize greatly with the annoyances you've experienced. Our tech team is aggressively working to put these issues in our rear view window.

Thanks for clearing that up, Andy! I was starting to think that there might be some sort of ban on mentioning or recommending internet-only radio stations, perhaps because it was outside the realm of broadcasting in the classic sense. And Maine-i-ac, it never occured to me that my beloved boss might be behind it, now I'm paranoid!!!!

That being said, I will repeat my suggestion to the hapless Jamie that he check out my good friend Chris "The Rushman" Rush's http://www.mainesextremeradio.com it just might be what he is looking for. Either that or move to Skowhegan! ;)

I like the unusual music and listen whenever I head west from Dover. The Vitamin String Quartet’s version of Free Bird is almost better than Skynyrd’s.

Apologies to all (especially Jamie!) but it seems I posted a dead link. I believe Chris has renamed the station and changed the link. Sorry.
