102.3 WWHK Concord NH - Classical Remakes of Rock Songs?

maybe the violins wouldn't seem quite as awful if the station had people on the air.

might as well face it...that's what it is....violins......

couple people might dress it up some.

I hope not. WZID will eat them for lunch.

Maybe if they go for something more unique like softer/older than ZID, they could find an audience... especially with the lack of a pop classic hits station in the area.

I've always thought a soft rock WSSH-type station might do well in Concord. And there is indeed a classic hits. 99.1 is back to Frank FM. Kind of surprised it doesn't simulcast the Nashua Frank. The music is the same.

Frank is only rock/album classic hits though, no motown, disco, etc...

ADULT..AC...kind of a LNH MIX 94.1 or WZID? JYY is radio disney...why couldn't a good local, involved adult ac station work?

The problems for them are

1. A weak signal

2. Not a lot of formats left to cover.

They have to stay away from ZID, country, and classic rock. What else?

Oldies has been mentioned, a simulcast of something else, or light rock which was also mentioned..
AAA done right could work in Concord as well

Why stay away from Country? They were country before... did pretty well too, I thought.

Based on what I'm seeing however, I'm thinking an AC of some sort. Maybe a Soft AC type thing.

I believe they were country when 93.3 was classic rock. Now that 93.3 is country, they would have a strong signal competitor. You're right, it seems like the prevailing wind is in the direction of light rock. Now that MAGIC in Boston has become a little more up-tempo, this may be the best choice.

Well, I don't think they're really competing with Boston stations in Concord. Their local competition is really WZID and WGIR-FM for sales dollars. So maybe Country makes the most sense, since there's no Country station in Manchester. Yes, there is WOKQ Dover/WPKQ Mt. Washington and WSCY Moultenborough. But I don't know how much business they do in Concord. WOKQ does have Manchester advertisers but that's not their primary sales area, the NH Seacoast is.

I do like the idea of Very Soft AC, especially since WZID has moved so uptempo. I heard them playing Shout by Tears for Fears the other day, something they never would have played a few years ago, let alone when it was current. In Florida, there are several Very Soft AC stations that do great in the ratings, WFEZ Miami, WDUV Tampa and WJBT Fort Myers. Maybe that would work in Central NH, since no one is doing anything similar. Maybe it's time that more markets get Very Soft AC stations, with conventional AC stations now so uptempo.

Doesn't WOKQ have a Manchester translator?

Well, there's also WHOM which puts a strong signal into Concord. By today's standards, they're still a soft AC. I'm sure WZID (and to a lesser extent 'HOM) moved away from Celine Dion/Michael Bolton/etc. is because that's not what today's 35-54 women want to hear. South Florida is a totally different world than central N.H.

Yes, it's on 97.9.

Because no one can out do WZID. Saga is a great operator, they have top notch talent and management, and actively invest in their tech plant and promotions. It's a monster. Taking them on would require resources very few companies have, especially not a relatively poor signaled standalone. I wish them luck, but Hot AC, CHR, or Country practically guarantee also-ran status.
I'd say local talk, leaning Libertarian, progressive, and centrist but local talk is quite likely too expensive to do, and good talent is hard to find.

Don't forget WFEA-1370; Yes, it's AM but with Dial Global soft-AC/standards, it does put out a decent signal, especially to north.
Don't now if they show much in Concord ratings, but I listen to them when over there, and they even come in good near lake Winnepesaukee next to WEZS-1350.
