102.5 - Lakewood area of Dallas

Anyone in that neck-of-the-woods? I'm hearing rumors there might be a pirate around there. From what I understand it's NOT very high power - but I was curious if anyone else heard it.

Last pirate I heard on 102.5 was several years ago in the High Five area. They played oldies and old commercials. This was before the KMAD semi-move in.

This may just be some guy with one of those FM modulators. Sounds like a job for Vide0chik

Whatever happened to the plans for a KTCU translator in the Irving area on 102.5?

I don't know. But I hope not - KMAD is a popular Collin County rim shot! I would imagine the KMAD move-in ended plans for a 102.5 translator. Full service stations always supercede translators. But then - the FCC allowed the CSN translator to stay on the air in downtown Dallas even with the KLAK Collin county move-in. So who knows?

Since the CSN translator is outside KLAK's 1mV countour, there is nothing the FCC will do. Stupid but true......(who said the goverment was smart??)

Update

Well if it quits raining enough to go find it, I will. This is NOT low power. I could hear it downtown dallas - and went out through Lakewood and it was EASILY listenable for miles. This was just on the truck radio. When the rain quits I'll break out the FIM 71 and narrow it down.
______________

The 97.5 translator was forced to drop half its power to make way for KLAK.

It's still listed as a CP -- K273BJ 102.5 Dallas. It will really only cover south Irving, Grand Prairie, and west Dallas. The CP shows it will be using the same tower as KDBN 93.3 NNW of the Loop 12/I-30 interchange.

Found it

First off let me start by saying I hate searching in the dark. By the time it quit raining enough to look, it was nearing sundown. By the time we got into the neighborhood, it was dark. Makes it hard to look for antennas. It appears they're using some sort of loop antenna - normally used to receive - and a really crappy power supply - as evidence by the buzz/hum in the background of the music. Anyway, the address (it's a duplex - so most likely whoever it is is renting) is 5407 Victor - satellite view HERE

I don't plan on turning them in... not harming anyone, not asking for money, and not saying ni**er every 3 seconds like that guy up in Ponder was doing. Interesting choices of music however - including "these boots were made for walking" - in French.
______________

Needs a good dose of Der Kommisar in German,
and Nena's 99 Luftballoons and it would be
complete. I remember as a teen watching the
videos to these on MTV and laughing my ass
off.
