Created a separate thread to discuss the format change on KTFM-HD 2. For those who haven't seen the last thread, KTFM-HD 2 103.3 The App is now G 103.3 and flipped from Alternative Rock to Classic Hip Hop, after KMYO 95.1 and Hot 104.5 flipped to Spanish CHR.

So far the playlist sounds a lot like Yo 95.1's playlist, for the exception of maybe a few songs I haven't heard before. I think they'll gain an audience from Yo and Hot's listeners, from the listeners they lost who aren't to happy about losing their only Alternative station.

G is tagging themselves as "Throwbacks" and not Classic Hip Hop, which leaves them open to a much broader playlist. Right now, the same 100 or less songs are being repeated over and over but I'm sure more music will be added this week.

As I've said in another post, too bad radio can't recover the alternative format as quick as San Antonio did with classic hip hop. Look at Dallas. KDGE flipped to AC back in November and yet the market is still without an alternative format up to this date (to an extent, public AAA KKXT is trying to save the alternative listeners). It comes to show that when it comes to any rock radio format, it doesn't attract as much as other formats. 103.3 the App was a great listen to station whenever I needed an alternative fix. Let's hope Austin doesn't get rid of 101X.

As for G, I usually don't care for the format but I can see them trying to get more listeners than the App.
