103.9 in Edison playing Indian music from Radio Asia

Saturday afternoon I heard a station playing Indian music on 103.9. I checked 100.7 and 104.7, it wasn't playing the same Indian music as those translators so it couldn't be a spur. I heard an ID for Radio Asia. So I checked 103.3-HD2 (had to hold my portable HD radio in just the right spot to get this HD2 to decode in Edison) and the music matched.

I was on route 27 and it was strongest when I tuned in to it at Plainfield Ave, and got weaker as I went north.

Is there a new translator I haven't heard about?

I heard it also. WPDI has an application to move from 104.7 to 103.9. however it is still an Application. that has Not Yet been Granted…
They are playing games again.. I just got Home from picking my son up From work. in South Brunswick. and there was Radio Asia noisy in spots Solid in Others along Rt 130n and Cranbury road.
However they were not on 103.9… tonight I heard them on 102.3…. Fighting with WBAB on long island.

I wonder if they're testing different frequencies. They aren't allowed to just change the frequency of their transmitter without authorization from the FCC. All 3 stations should lose their license because of the antics of their owner.

I think all 3 Indian stations should broadcast on 104.7 and synchronize their programming exactly.
 
Don't they know that 103.9 WFAS-FM has an CP to move to the Bronx which will increase their southern coverage.

That didn't stop 89.3 WCNJ from changing their transmitter location and increasing their power whenever they felt like it!
 
Of all the broadcasters, those guys should NOT get a second displacement. Enough is enough.
 
Agreed. They haven't played fair since day one and have been using their ethnicity as an excuse. Well, enough is enough. The radio asia guys were pulling the same shit with 103.9 weeks before they submitted their app to the FCC. I was able to hear them from Atlantic Highlands to East Windsor, taking the local roads through Monmouth and Middlesex on my way there, and the turnpike to the parkway on the way back.

They shouldn't be on the air for many, many reasons and shouldn't be granted anything additional from the FCC. Every reincarnation of this company has yet to comply with the rules and regulations other American broadcasters, non-comm or comm are faced with. They shouldn't be the exception. They couldn't get their shit together either prior to those church folks kicking them off of 89.3, yet the FCC gave them another opportunity. FCC should have cut them off there.
 
It was fun building and then singing on the 89.3 knowing what was about to happen... ;D

How was WCNJ like on 89.3 before the Indians took it over
 
As far as? Far more legit and compliant... There were a few issues with the studios and transmitter moving without going through proper channels and getting approvals. This was toward the end of WCNJ before Steve Liadus/WVRM, Inc. sold/leased the station to someone named Suri, I believe around late 98/1999. During the days of WVRM and WCNJ from 1979 or so til its demise in 98, there were no illegal power increases... There were no call to action violations. Station paperwork was filed accordingly and on time with the FCC. No one was sneaking up to the transmitter to try and tamper with it... Aside from Sal Anthony's issues, the simulcast on WRLJ Freehold and the eventual robbing of equipment for his own pirate station, CNJ seemed to have been ran quite legally and efficiently.
 
The New Brunswick translator on 104.7 is playing dead air tonight. 100.7's broadcast is dropping in and out, and is being clobbered by WZXL. 100.7's transmitter is lower and closer to NYC, but it's still suffering from ducting. WELJ is coming in 104.7's nulls. 97.1-HD2 isnt decoding on my HD radio. There's strong tropo tonight.
 
What is all 3 Indian stations?
I only know Of 2 on FM……

The one on AM band is 100% legit…

WPDI/Radio Asia is on 103.9 today... I can hear their signal all the way in Bridgewater. Sounds like they are overmodulating, too. I heard a DJ saying "now on 103.9 FM".

Looks Like they are OFFICIALLY allowed to set up shop on the new frequency... Mystery Solved! I'll have to give it a listen... Looks "legit" to me...

Officially in terms of the frequency, but who knows about the power level... I'd be surprised if they are actually transmitting only 10 watts as the CP states... they must have a crazy good antenna for only 10 watts to get their signal all the way from Hazlet to the Somerville Circle area and Bridgewater Mall!
 
I don't know why the FCC keeps licensing them. Of course, there are also 50 pirates on in the market, so what difference does it make to them? Too busy trying to figure out how to auction off more spectrum for broadband.

It doesn't matter what their license says or what the FCC rules are... the WDDM / WPDI folks will use as much transmitter power and as high of a modulation level as necessary to get their signal heard on Oak Tree Road.
 
While the rest of us play by the rules.

Let's all go in and ask to see their public file.
