103.9 in Edison playing Indian music from Radio Asia

I don't know why the FCC keeps licensing them. Of course, there are also 50 pirates on in the market, so what difference does it make to them? Too busy trying to figure out how to auction off more spectrum for broadband.

It doesn't matter what their license says or what the FCC rules are... the WDDM / WPDI folks will use as much transmitter power and as high of a modulation level as necessary to get their signal heard on Oak Tree Road.

What's so special about Oak Tree Road? Aren't there Indians all throughout central NJ?

Yes, but that's where a lot of Indian/South Asian-owned businesses are, and of course WPDI would love to get them as advertisers... er, "sponsors", although WPDI has a long history of running full-blown ads and prize contests despite having a non-commercial license.

I also noticed that the 100.7 translator in Edison has a FCC Construction Permit to boost their power from 8 watts to 200 watts!

I'd like to see WLEV force them off the air if they go to 200 watts.

I happened to be at the western end of Oak Tree Road in South Plainfield today and did a comparison between the various Indian/South Asian signals on my car radio. 1170 WWTR was loud and clear. 104.7 W284BW had some static but was listenable. 100.7 W264BT had some interference from WHUD but was still mostly listenable. And 103.9 WPDI was unlistenable, with mostly static and interference from WFAS-FM.

OK they were Finally granted the CP to move to the new frequency of 103.9
However that does not mean they can actually go on the air Unless they Filed for a TA( Test Authority_ and Filed to be fully licensed..
I use the word "FILED"
The question is Have they "Filed"? or just went on the New Freq because they were granted the CP….
good luck….

WPDI/Radio Asia is on 103.9 today... I can hear their signal all the way in Bridgewater. Sounds like they are overmodulating, too. I heard a DJ saying "now on 103.9 FM".

Looks Like they are OFFICIALLY allowed to set up shop on the new frequency... Mystery Solved! I'll have to give it a listen... Looks "legit" to me...

A quick search of the CDBS turns up the answer of "maybe" and "not yet".

They may have filed but it's not in the system yet. Or they haven't filed yet.

Whatever the case, we can look forward to more of the same. :60 full blown ads on a non-comm.

Directional FMs need to file separately for program test authority - but non-directional FMs get automatic program test authority along with their CPs unless otherwise specified in the CP grant. So, WPDI could build and begin broadcasting on 103.9 as soon as that CP was granted.

(But they couldn't do so before the CP was granted, which it sounds like they were doing.)

Yes, they were doing that after the app was filed but well before the CP was issued.

Figures. Why even bother for a 10 watt license? Just crank it up and run as a pirate. They would get a few years of it before anything was done.

If they want to cover Oak Tree Road so badly, why can't they just move the transmitter to Oak Tree Road?

Too close to WFAS-FM.

102.3 would've been better than 103.9, since it's a clearer frequency in the area, unless 102.1 from Philly would be an issue in getting FCC approval.

WPDI is now running commercials for the NJ Festival of Ballooning and Total Transformation (yes, that lady whose son Jeremy slammed the door in her face). Not "sponsorship" messages -- full commercials, on a "non-commercial"-licensed station.

can someone get a recording of this and send it to the FCC? Apparently, the owners don't understand in either language what constitutes for a commercial ad vs. non-comm underwriting...

pathetic.
