1030 KDUN Oregon & 1180 KOFI Montana Heard in Michigan

Long sought after 1030 KDUN was finally heard last night during SSS at 0100 UTC. When nulling WBZ I usually have trouble here with WQSE. Tonight the pest was XEQR which finally faded just before TOH leaving the frequency relatively open for KDUN's TOH ID to bubble up just at the right moment: "The most powerful voice on the Oregon coast, this is K-D-U-N, Reedsport." and then into possible FOX News and soon gone again. I think I caught them just before their scheduled pattern change. Oregon #1 and state #47!

1180 KOFI Montana was also logged here last night for the first time at 0006 UTC, mixing with dominant WJNT.

Excellent! Have you logged KTWO yet? I get KDUN often at LSS time. After dark it's usually KTWO and KMAS, while an SSer pops up once in a blue moon (thinking XESDD.)

Congrats!

Refresh my memory. Do you use a steerable BOG?

That's a great catch, kilokat7; I was at the Oregon coast several years ago and I remember KDUN saying "K...D...U...N...Reedsport."

Thanks. KTWO - yep, I catch them occasionally just before their pattern change at night this time of year. KMAS would be a very nice catch and it's my next "most wanted" on 1030. I would be very happy with XESDD too!

Yep. It's probably the only way to achieve nulling of WBZ to my East while focusing all reception the opposite way, to the West. I suppose you could also phase two loops, or a vertical with a loop, but I never had much luck phasing loops (operator error most likely).

A tip of the earphones to you, Kilokat.
Further east here, those are a pair of states that traditionally are quite hard to hear -- even back into the 60's when the dial was less jumbled. (The onliest Oregon I ever heard from Long Island, for example, was KYMN 1520).

Once again : A nod of the headset to you!

KDUN gives KTWO problems with their killowatt night.
Lately a distorted Mexican formatted station from direct south of Boise's been killing them.

A Mexican station on 1030? That's XESDD in Baja California.

KDUN AM 1030 listening

Hey all....Glad you guys can pick up my station. I'm working on DX cards for those who want them. I'm honored that you all try to find us.

Check out our Facebook page KDUN AM and see a video of me powering our XL-60 60kW AM transmitter after minor service.
