104.5 and Citadel to drop Fox Sports Radio?

According to noted sports media critic and New York Post columnist Phil Mushnick, Citadel is considering dropping FSR in Nashville and possibly on more stations because of disturbing comments made Monday night.

104.5 went to FSR programming during the stoppage during the Preds game against Detroit after the Red Wings' Jim Fischer had a seizure on the bench. FSR hosts began talking about the situation and ended up making several inappropriate comments, considering at the time Fischer was unconscious and being shocked to re-start his heart.

104.5 then cut in with an apology for the comments of the FSR hosts and other programming was aired.

Everytime I talk to someone over at 104.5, I complain about FSR, especially the two jokers that made these comments. These comments were certainly bad, but I've heard them come up with even worse stuff. FSR is certainly uncompatible with the local programming the Zone has created. The best Christmas present "my sports station" can give me is to axe Fox Sports Radio for good.

What kind of contract does 106.7 have with ESPN radio? Would it be possible for 104.5 to lure ESPN away from 106.7, just like 106.7 lured ESPN away from WNSR? Sounds like a good idea to me.

104.5 is committed to at least eight hours of local programming per day. ESPN might command them to carry a minimum number of ESPN Radio programming hours per day.
______________

I'd bet they would go to Sporting News Radio, which was previously a fixture on Citadel News and Sports stations.

Oh please, oh please, oh please say it is true. Either SNR or ESPN would be an upgrade. I can't have the Fox garbage on when my kids are in the car because they are a bunch of pervs...which is sad for sports radio. I would miss "Playoffs" Mora, Thompson Bros....maybe the 3rd shift...but that is about it. Heck...while they are at it they could drop Rome and use the 9AM - 3PM slot for Cowherd and DP. That would rid them of the filler hours around Jim Rome. I digress.....

Rome is a lot more popular than you'd think. Then again, so were Rick & Bubba, and they're nowhere to be found.
______________

According to the PD of the Citadel Sports Talker here in Knoxville, Citadel is contractually obligated to air Rome, no matter the ratings. FSR is more of a suggestion, although Citadel pays for it out of the national budget, if a station wants to air something else, they have to pay for it.

In all my protests against the raunchy Fox Sports, I'd come to believe FSR is the same kind of requirement Rome is. I'd understood it was Citadel's agreement on FSR that brought it to the Zone from 99.7. If it's a suggestion, why does Knoxville carry the really bad Extravaganza, instead of more time with the Sports Doctor? And I think local management knows FSR is NOT well-received in this town -- I've heard people there complain about it.

But their Birmingham station is able to carry ESPN, however. If I were ESPN, I'd rather a big audience in Nashville hear 12 daily hours with my spots than a tiny audience hear 18 hours.

I also don't believe Citadel pays anything for FSR, isn't it all barter?

But, you've given me hope that the Zone really may have the opportunity to finally kick FSR off of its airwaves...
