The article doesn't talk about a format change, just a change in morning shows. But it is odd.
iHeart gets rid of its own Spanish-language Premiere Networks "Enrique Santos Show" from mornings on 104.5 KZEP and replaces it with an English-language program, "Tino Cochino Radio," from another syndicator. Some affiliates use Cochino in mornings, some in evenings. But all affiliates broadcast in English, even if they are aiming at young Latino listeners. Several of the show's cast have Hispanic names but some don't.
Will KZEP continue the rest of the day with Spanish-language DJs and liners, playing Spanish-language hits? BTW, those call letters are from the station's history as a Classic Rock outlet. KZEP meant K-Zeppelin. When the format and language flipped, the station kept the same call sign.
Meanwhile, iHeart in San Antonio has an opposite situation at 96.1 KZZM. There it has Spanish-language DJs playing all English-language songs as Mix 96.1. Like WMIA-FM in Miami, it had a Spanish-English AC playlist until a few weeks ago. Now all the songs are in English, even though DJs, liners and many commercials are in Spanish.
