104.9 Lake FM WTNQ hires local staff.

This just in... Loud Media is actively looking for a buyer. Towel thrown in. Knoxville soon to be in their rear view and once again all the weekenders on this forum are wrong and out of touch.
One of the first things you learn about business is that "everything is for sale". Warren Buffet has said it, even Elon Musk has said it. So Loud Media, caught with a start-up situation in the middle of a recession and pandemic sees a long haul to profitability. They are selling.

Selling at the right price is not "throwing in the towel". It is making a good business decision.

Being sold has no bearing on the comments about their plan to serve smaller parts of a metro with specialized service. The concept is worth trying.

I had a feeling this would happen after WJMP changed its call letters. So the next question is who would possibly be in the market for two rimshot FMs and two AMs with translators?

Is there any real ad base in Lake City.....er, Rocky Top for 104.9? Oh well I suppose we don't have Salem here yet, or their "non-profit" partner. They bought two Dayton, Ohio rimshots that had been in trust for 10 years. I suppose, Bible belt as we are, there are still people that need savin'.

Well that would certainly make us nostalgic for the Loud Media days. Even though Salem doesn't own anything here, their programming is here. WIJV 92.7 (and Knoxville simulcast 1240/94.7) runs Salem's music format. I think their talk shows are cleared on an AM, but I'm not sure.

I'm not sure about what music WIJV runs, I know they have somebody or other and Bubba afternoons and I don't know the source. I think WETR-760 carries some Salem shows. I don't know if any of the below 92 mHz stations carry Salem's talk/teaching lineup (heavy on the anti-LGBTQ and Jesus-is-a-Republican). We don't have Catholic radio here, but I'm sure the lay Catholic groups that own radio stations wouldn't buy all 4.

There’s nothing wrong with taking a profit. If I paid less than $400k for two class A’s, flipping them would be high on the things to do list.

I don't see they're being that much to flip. You have one rimshot that may have a competitive signal in the northwestern tenth of the market, and another that covers West Knoxville and Blount County OK. The translators aren't bad but aren't great.

WIJV plays Contemporary Christian music.

When Eduardo said, "I could start with at least 20 profitable stations in the LA market alone that don't show in the ratings or which have very low ratings (less than 0.5) but are nicely profitable" it would have been a good place to focus on ONE Knoxville station that fits his profile of low ratings and nice profits. Isn't Knoxville radio the reason we are here?
I had no intention of entering this swamp, but could not let that omission pass. In a perfect world, Megawatt would realize that his venom is only making him, not Loud Media, look bad, and Ricki would realize that owners don't come here to discuss their business models, with a few exceptions, this place is populated with some of the exact people Megawatt has listed. PS.... I'm beginning to wonder if Megawatt is a spy, here to make Loud Media famous by defaming it.

Whats your source?

His posts are the laugh of this discussion. :ROFLMAO: I still wish you all the best Mr. Ricki. Carry on sir and don't let that mad hater get to you.

Well I get all kinds of mail and visit various sites which speak of radio stations being put up for sale. None of these sources, over the past few weeks, speaks of Mr. Ricki wanting to sell his. So before you speak sir, GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT AND QUIT SPREADING LIES ON HERE. Your only helping the man get more exposure for his radio stations. And with all that exposure, the stations will be the center of attention. People will want to see what the buzz is about and once they do, they'll stay tuned in and add to his listening and possibly advertising base.

I don't know what his source is either, but David confirmed it so that's good enough for me.
I said "if they are selling" and went on to say that, in business, anything is for sale at the right price.

I'll give you a practical and real example: Around 1966 I built Ecuador's first FM station. I already had my market's three top AM stations, and I wanted to have an FM for fun because my first radio job was mostly at an FM back in 1959. I had no expectation of making money, and enjoyed hearing "my station" in all the boutiques, little stores and restaurants in the better neighborhoods of the city.

But a friend and client, after I told him many times "no commercials", took me to lunch at his private club. Nice touch. He knew the highest rate of my "best" station and he offered four times that rate to be on the FM. All he asked was to have line exclusivity; he produced the only instant coffee in Ecuador, so that seemed easy to do. I said "no jingles, and only 20" spots". He said fine, "send your agent with the papers tomorrow." He then went on to tell me stories about the soccer team that he was the president of. And I realized I suddenly had a profitable FM radio station when I had thought I was never going to sell ads and, probably could not sell them had I tried.

Within a month, all 6 twenty-second avails each hour was sold. Two minutes of ads an hour, and it made as much as any of my AM stations. All because I had a price.

In fact, everything in business has a price. Sometimes we put a price that is prohibitive, but if we get it anyway, we take the money and start a new business.

You may have meant that, but that's not what you typed. If I had known that you were not confirming it in your earlier reply, I would not have given this rumor any legs by replying to it afterward.
