105.7 The Groove gets Bigger, Better & Louder Labor Day Weekend

Sounds like an update of B-98's 80's weekends. Would this be hip-hop, CHR or a combination? Probably a good idea either way.......sucking in some listeners from several other stations/formats. Maybe they've already tried this in another market.

Trading Rhy/CHR for all-90s would be insane. Rhy/CHR is much more viable. Have any of the 90s stations actually shown strong ratings promise yet?

Groove just needs to drop ANYTHING pre-2000s and change the name. See how it does, then move to a bigger signal if needed (assuming that's not already planned).

I highly doubt they are flipping to an all 90s format. It's just for the weekend.

It looks like this one would make sense. One would guess that there wasn't room for Classic Country in Atlanta, especially on a struggling Class A signal.

Is the 96.7 signal strong enough to cover the part of the metro the 105.7 signal doesn't get? I've always been hearing its very weak.

I remember listening to WILD 96.7 clear on a house stero in Stone Mountain back in the day. This should be the perfect for South Metro because I know riding through Newnan to Alabama 105.7 was beginning to full with static.

105.7 covers north of the Perimeter well. 96.7 covers south of the Perimeter. The Groove's problem will be inside the Perimeter.

Wonder if they'll now call it "1057/967 The Groove" or just ignore the 96.7 in its branding? Interesting MAGIC is on 107.5 and 97.5, HOT is on 107.9 and 102.9 and now GROOVE simulcasting.

Radio locator says The Legend is only 2150 watts. I think 105.3 would have been a better choice, plus it's closer to 105.7. Could be they have some kind of signal upgrade in mind.

Assuming this happens, I honestly don't feel like 96.7 is going to be of much help to the Groove's Arbitron performance. The signal is simply inadequate. I've been saying for years that CC needs to just sell the stick and fund their other properties with the profits...

It works, but you might have to put up with a lot of spitting and tuning back and forth in fringe areas. You....can....almost get 96.7 in Gwinnett, and I've never had a problem with 105.7 as far south as Lenox or so.

My personal vote has been to sell it to Davis and have them trimulcast La Raza on it. Of course, that would compete with Patron.

I hope they find a place to put Chris East to work; the business card I have for him lists Braves and the Legend as his jobs.

Haha. That's like being music director of WSB.

Unless you're from back in the day and your name is Elmo Ellis. Supposedly EE personally approved every record that went on the air.

THIS JUST IN........

On the Radio Info site, Clear Channel has started a Gen-X CHR in several markets (including Honolulu today). Could this be their plan for 105.7? The format features Rock, Hip-Hop and CHR from about 1990 forward. Goodbye Groove......hello 105.7 THE X ????

In this week's weekly 105.7 The Groove email newsletter it says, "The Groove gets BIGGER, BETTER, LOUDER! Listen this Monday at 12 Noon!"

Then it says, "Listen up for an all 90s Labor Day weekend! This weekend take a trip down memory lane with us and listen to all your favorite 90s music!"

What people have been waiting for or hoping for, regardless of whether or not that format sound is their personal music taste; Can it happen? Or will the Bermuda Traingle effect kill the possibility and once again push something else happen  ???

THAT IS THE QUESTION!

This is the question regarding Atlanta's quest to finally get a real, traditional rhythmic OR top 40 station sound!

Maybe the 90's is just a temporary segway from the 80's, 90's and 00's sound to the traditional rhythmic or rhythmic top 40 sound (playing strictly currents and some mid 00's and old school sprinkled in from time to time).

OR:

Maybe the 90's is a sign of the Gen-X format that seems to be hinting at the moment, which will still leave Atlanta Rhythmic / Rhythmic Top 40-less as the question, "could it ever happen" continues to roam around freely.

Who knows.. If it's the second of the two, then you must wonder why did they start going more current, phasing out the old school in the first place? Why did they even go after The Beat listeners if they knew that 90's would be their upcoming format? Could the 90's weekend move just be a closure to the back in the day portion of their playlist, or is it a sign of permanent things to come - for as long as it can work in Atlanta? Who knows what will happen.. but the one thing you can most likely count on for sure is the end result being something you would not expect to happen. After all, look at the history of things that have happened top 40 and rhythmic-wise in ATL!

Either WWVA may be the pioneers of "normalcy" 2010+ or The Bermuda Triangle effect will once again champion out undefeated and cause another override and you will end up with anything in the world but a traditional top 40 or rhythmic sound, in the Bermuda Triangle of Traditional Top 40, also known as Atlanta.

I guess we'll wait and see. Lets just take this weekend to enjoy the sounds that will take us back to an era of NO actual rhythmic or top 40 sounds!!!

OH, and lest not forget - the possibility of them becoming an "X" doesn't necessarily rule out the possibility that they could STILL change frequencies (as well)! Next year, you could be listening to Gen-X, 99X, and watching X-Factor!
