I listened to Fun a little bit when it was on 106.7 and broadcasting an "Oldies" format. The vast majority of the songs I heard them play were from the '70s and '80s (i.e. Prince's "Let's Go Crazy"). Which begs the question: aren't the terms "Oldies" and "Classic Hits" pretty much interchangable now? Didn't the vast majority of stations that had "Oldies" formats gradually shift from early rock n' roll to playing pretty much nothing pre-British Invasion while adding more '70s and some '80s titles, essentially morphing into "Classic Hits"? Personally, it seems to me that while many stations may report to Arbitron as the former, the sound is generally much better described as the latter. There have to be half a dozen stations in this market (or reaching it from outside the area) that can be defined as one of these formats, but the only one that can truly be described as "Oldies" is WMID-AM and perhaps WVLT. I don't think you will hear the likes of Chuck Berry & Buddy Holly anywhere else on the dial ... not on Kool, Sunny, Wibbage, Woggle, or Fun.
No. Oldiesand Classic Hits aren't interchangable. There are two variations of Classic Hits: 1 The Pop version like OGL and KOOL (which I personally should be renamed "Greatest Hits" and the more rock version like the Frank and Hawk stations of Nassau. I hear oldies; I think 50s-60s.
