106.3 in North Cape May switches calls to WJSE

Surprised nobody caught this (I only happened to notice yesterday myself), but "Fun 106.3" WFNE switched calls on June 11 to WJSE ..
Anything going on format-wise down there ?
Also, Coastal is listed in the FCC database as a debtor-in-possession ..
Maybe a sale and/or a return to alternative rock to go with the newly-acquired WJSE calls ?

According to a surprisingly up-to-date Wikipedia, they're doing "classic hits" using Westwood One programming. Interesting...

I listened to Fun a little bit when it was on 106.7 and broadcasting an "Oldies" format. The vast majority of the songs I heard them play were from the '70s and '80s (i.e. Prince's "Let's Go Crazy"). Which begs the question: aren't the terms "Oldies" and "Classic Hits" pretty much interchangable now? Didn't the vast majority of stations that had "Oldies" formats gradually shift from early rock n' roll to playing pretty much nothing pre-British Invasion while adding more '70s and some '80s titles, essentially morphing into "Classic Hits"? Personally, it seems to me that while many stations may report to Arbitron as the former, the sound is generally much better described as the latter. There have to be half a dozen stations in this market (or reaching it from outside the area) that can be defined as one of these formats, but the only one that can truly be described as "Oldies" is WMID-AM and perhaps WVLT. I don't think you will hear the likes of Chuck Berry & Buddy Holly anywhere else on the dial ... not on Kool, Sunny, Wibbage, Woggle, or Fun.

"Perhaps WVLT"? Outside of WLNG, they could be the only "real oldies" outlet left on the Eastern seaboard.

Wibbage 94.3 plays Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and a ton of other late 50's early 60's artists. Plus a slew of "Philly" stuff no one is playing like Son's of Robin Stone and Billy Harner. It is what separates them from the classic hits stations that have added 80's tunes.

The owners of WJSE 106.3 should just sell it to Press and have them simulcast Thunder 106 on there. That signal is a format wheel, and hasn't been successful.

Why not bring back Hot 106.3

Bring back the top 40/dance format and call it the Vibe 106.3.
right now i'm listening top 20 dance songs on Top Albania Radio the hottest station in the world from 12 noon to 1 00 pm every saturday.

THERE'S ONLY ONE WIBBAGE [email protected]

Clearly there are many Monday morning quarterbacks here. Clearly WIBBAGE [email protected] has blown out
all the other "classic" stations in this market. To soul crusher, there is no getting through to folks who
don't pay attention to the fine nuances of WIBBAGE FM. Our Program Director Rick Rock and General
Manager Jerry Beebe have spend untold hours tweaking and perfecting the WIBBAGE brand.
No one comes close to it. Nor can they..because there's only one WIBBAGE. Full service live and local..
pro-active local news.. theres not another station in the market that can make that claim.

Our audience loves it, the response is off the charts with thousands of phone calls and e-mails each
month, and advertisers who really get tremendous response. So to the pundits and quarterbacks:
Know your subject before you intend to opine. Atlantic City's WIBBAGE has taken the market by storm
and the competition knows it.

No. Oldiesand Classic Hits aren't interchangable. There are two variations of Classic Hits: 1 The Pop version like OGL and KOOL (which I personally should be renamed "Greatest Hits" and the more rock version like the Frank and Hawk stations of Nassau. I hear oldies; I think 50s-60s.

The former Hot 106.3 was on the station that is currently Thunder 106.5. The current 106.3 in Cape May used to be 106.7. Its signal sucked, except during tropo when it covered half of NJ, Delaware, and Long Island.

94.9 KCMO in Kansas City has a speciality 50s/60s oldies show on Sunday nights. I recently heard it a few weeks ago during an e skip opening that occurred well after sunset. Amazing how it is so rare to hear "real oldies" nowadays.

Maybe I am incorrect, but even with upgrade and better signal, isn't WIBBAGE stil struggling in the ratings? Rick Rock is doing a great joband the listeners they have may love it but I thought that ratings have been flat.

106.3, when it was on 106.7, had the WKOE calls for a period of time. Call letters of the past are no stranger to Coastal.
