106.5 pirate near the WEBE smokestack in Bridgeport

nd2023

Banned
I think I heard a pirate station near Bridgeport. It had programming in another language and sounded similar to the pirates that infest Newark and Boston. I noticed that it was strong near the WEBE smokestack tower on I-95. It did not sound like intermodulation.

Yes indeed! I'm still dealing with a pirate in the south end of New Britain, spewing Spanish "religion" on 87.9 FM, totally wiping out WESU-FM 88.1 of Middletown (Wesleyan University). At times, the interference was up to 88.5 FM and the occasional signal I get from WFCR-FM from Amherst, MA.

This is so pathetic how these pirates..with the continuing factor that most are spanish or carribean most times..have no issues interfering with legit signals. As if people want to hear the crap they put out.

The only legit signal they'd be interfering with down that way might be the Derby based translator of Long Island's WSUF, which is owned by Sacred Heart University. (Although base on the map on WSHU's website shows 106.5 doesn't reach Bridgeport) I know when I've been through Bridgeport on the train I never picked up WBMW from Ledyard on 106.5 Translators from out of state are the lowest of the low.

Yes there is a pirate operating in the Bridgeport area on 106.5.
He seems to be on the air weeknights and weekends with a good signal
Covers Bridgeport, Stratford, and Trumbull very well.
By the sound of it he is running a few watts It is no part 15

is there any way to report this illegal operation? Tends to be annoying when trying to pick up 106.1 from LI....The greater Bpt area is a signal gold mine in that so many different stations come in from NYC, LI, and CT......Around inner downtown Bpt, the clearest signals seem to be 95.1 (WRKI booster), 97.5, 99.9 and 107.9 in addition to that 106.5 thing.

its not that strong. I can't get it in Old greenwich at all where I can pick up 92.5, 9.37 and Kc-101 pretty good on my sangean over the NYC screamers. This when I was playing with the antenna out of the window trying to get 104.1 and 106.9.

I love Pirates !!!! Act of 96 Killa !!!
106.5 was not urban AC. Keep listening to Touch 106.1 till it gets shut down

I hate that 105.3 translator of classical WMNR/WGRS in Fairfield. 105.3 is on the SAME TOWER as 91.9 which also translates the same station. That translator kills Party 105 reception along a long stretch of I95, and the translator is next to useless because its signal is worse than 91.9. The 106.5 pirate doesn't interfere with anyone except WLTW

I love Pirate stations, of any format !

Cool! Then come to the south end of New Britain and tune in 87.9 FM. That way, you can enjoy an over-modulated Spanish religous station! :(

It's ridiculous. Not too many Hispanics listen to religion on the radio. Yet we got Radio Cantico Nuevo on AM 990 WXCT, Radio Avivamiento on 89.3 Norfolk WSGG and translators on 98.3 in Meriden and 89.7 in Talcottville and a "PART 15" on 1620 in Hartford. (I put Part 15 in quotes because they claim it's Part 15 but they use too much power). And now we got this stupid 87.9 Pitate. Enuff is Enuff. Plus every stupid Public Access TV station runs Spanish Christian Programming at least a few hours every week. I'm not counting WADS 690 because they don't serve greater Hartford.

Furthermore I don't think Radio Avivamiento is operating 100% legally. Their studios are in Hartford and I understand they're using a web-stream to feed WSGG in Norfolk.

As for this 106.5 Pirate in Bridgeport according to a friend of mine they're running Reggae music and probably broadcasting with at least 100 watts.

Numbers of listeners don't matter to Christian broadcasters. The intent is to grab the easily persuaded who might just be randomly tuning around, sell them on whatever brand of Christianity is being peddled and turn them into revenue-producing members of the church or ministry. It's an ancient and honorable Spanish church tradition dating all the way back to the good old days of the Inquisition. Except the broadcasters don't kill the people who don't believe.

As much as I hate pirates, If I had a choice of a pirate station or a licensed godcaster going on the air within a mile of where I live, I would rather have the pirate station. Religious stations are wastes of FM frequencies.
