107.1 The Bone: The Valley's Home Of The NY Yankees

I'm not in the area, so can anyone tell me why the Yankees' Yes Network is blacked out in most of the area, as it says on The Bone's website? Is it because of the Phillies? Thanks.

Back in 2007 I found a very-detailed map which defines the territories of the MLB teams. It's all defined by Postal zip codes. The Lehigh Valley and much of the Pocono area, sadly, are strictly Phillies territory.

it sucks for the people who like music. the bone plays more music than zzo, until now. this sounds like a great way to drop in the ratings.

As stated in the other post on this topic, very pi$$ poor reactionary move by a very poorly run corporation.
Any juice they had by starting this format, will just be lost and listeners will be tuning out in droves...

Anyone home WZZO.. now is your chance!

Even as a Phillies fan I have no issue with this move. NYC is 90 miles away. Some natives have always been Yankee fans in addition to those who have migrated to this area from the NY//CT/NJ area. York PA stations and probably Lancaster station broadcast Orioles, Nationals, and Phillies games. The same thought process applies. Stop your whining!

Renegade,

You have no understanding of the history of this market. Nassau has tried Yankee baseball in both the Pocono, and Lehigh Valley before, and failed. If the support wasn't there before, why would it be there now. And putting baseball on an FM station with a bad signal is just plain stupid! They were making some inroads with the Bone(although they took a hit last book) This is only going to alienate more folks. Just a plain stupid move by Nassau.

Of course they were making inroads with the bone. Zzo was getting their asses kicked music wise, but now, it's all over. Any chance they had of hurting zzo bad enough to make them actually want to make the station good are now gone. Nice going nassau, what a way to **** up the last good station you own (besides PST)

I try to listen to the Yankees on The Bone and I find that their signal is too weak. I am in Budd Lake, about 20 miles from Belvidere. They are almost unlistenable in Budd Lake. The Breeze from Long Branch steps all over them, and Long Branch must be 50-60 miles from me.

WZZO booms in strongly in Budd Lake. The Bone is barely listenable.

That's bc the bone is only a class a station, but, the bone is a better station. Zzo could have the biggest signal in the USA and they would still suck. Even where the bone is weak, they still have wmmr and 979x in the mix, and to the west, 1057 the x. Zzo wouldn't be so bad if they would ditch most the old stuff and go active, but until then, the bone is where it's at.

I can hear The Bone OK in South Whitehall. As a baseball fan, I prefer that programming to whatever else they might have on, but that's my own tastes.

I know that for flagship stations the baseball clubs tend to purchase the airtime and sell advertising themselves. This means guaranteed revenue for the stations. I don't know if that's how affiliates like The Bone would do things or not. But, if they got guaranteed money to air the Yankees with little sales responsibility, that might be a boon to cash-starved Nassau right now.

I would imagine they had to pay for the rights to air the Yankee's games, unless it's a straight barter.
