107.3 "The Promise" to sign on the air soon...

I still think of the station as WDLX, so it's not like "WERO" is a legacy to behold and cherish.

I remember it when it was WITN Rock 93 and also as DLX. It was a great station that was ultimately ruined by corproate radio. Very few of these "legacy" stations exsist. They're dying out like AM stations are. Now HD Radio MIGHT save AM, but it's doubtful.

I remember when Steve Hardy's Original Beach Party was on this station...I met Steve once at a Burger King in Kinston...nice guy.

just a thought, just because a few on this board don't think WERO (or any other station for that matter) has a "legacy" to us, does't mean that someone a little bit younger doesn't.

What is it with old people?!?! ??? :p Just because it's not YOUR music, it's not as good. Same thing with radio. Just because it's not YOUR same old station doesn't mean it isn't good or leaving a legacy with the next generation.

Seems a bit arrogant, don't you think?

Arrogant? Nah. It's just people talking on the internet expressing their opinions, nothing set in stone, no actual possessions were exchanged or transferred.

Usually stations protect their call letters because they are historic, not because they are easier to make promos for.

Even so, Big Ben if you want the WERO call letters, they are yours.
We bequeath them to ya. Do what you will with them. :)

I would consider myself one of the "younger" but I fail to see how the WERO calls have any significant heritage at all. They represent a two year failed attempt at classic hits that ended almost 10 years ago. Is this something to celebrate?

;D I'm Lost??? WERO...Sounds like Weird O ..Hey That' ain't bad! Heritage Station My A*S! APE is a Heritage Station... BIG APE!

It's supposed to mean "Arrow" as in Arrow 93.3, All Rock & Roll Oldies

A station that was great but about 10 years ahead of its time. It's come back to life as 100.7 The River.

Q: The Anncr: O God Here we go.."What would we consider "Rock and Roll Oldies"...How many times...Layla..I never hear Mississpii Queen any more? Hey is that on our list??? Mountain?? APE!

I know it's supposed to mean "Arrow" but it looks more like "EROtic."

I guess they could play that angle up some, but it would probably get old faster than "Arrow" would, or "WDLX" whatever they would want to spell with that. "Deluxe," "Dill licks," "WD60," that one's got possibilities!! ;D

I am forever in your debt! ::) I am planning on using the EROtic angle to make an all porno groove music station.
BOW CHICKA BOW WOW!

I actually could really care less about Bob's calls and have no clue if it's the stuff of legends...just expressing my own (arrogant) opinons.

;D

Actually it was Deluxe if I remember correctly when they had the DLX calls. I think it was "The Deluxe FM 93.3 WDLX".

It was. I recall some bumper sticker still being in the production room when I worked there (it was WERO when I worked there) that had the WDLX calls and said "93.3 Goes Deluxe"

That's right!

I worked there, too (circa '88-92). They were The Hot FM, too, long before those other guys.

We had a pic of a DLX sticker on an East German warning (Achtung!) sign from before the wall came down. Priceless!

There was a Hot FM decal somewhere around in there too. I thought it was hilarious given our competition was the Hot FM, and back then, they truly were competition (with twice the shares we had at that!)

Beyond just the 80s, that building was so full of history it was amazing. I spent hours just looking around.

Anyone driven by there recently? The Pirate Radio folks have cleaned up the lawn, removed the letters from the building, and given it a fresh coat of paint. Place actually looks quite nice now. They don't even have a studio presence there and yet they care more about that building than NextMedia did when it was their main office!

;D Does it have "Bars" on the windows? What does wOOt mean? APE
