107.9 To Tweak Playlist In Anticipation Of PPM?

They need to. Maybe an Adult CHR? Their music isn't that good.

They've been playing more music lately, especially since the midday show was dumped.

I think Kelly McKay's mid-day show strikes a good balance between Personality and Music. That may be what they're looking for in the rest of the dayparts. Frankly, I think that approach would be a vast improvement in Link's AM and PM drive. Just my opinion.

Does it make sense to tweak the format before PPM? Seems like the should give it a month or two so they can see where they stand with PPM and then go from there. As long as the billing is strong why change before PPM starts.

I don't get it, as much as most of the people here talk about personality radio and how today's stations are nothing but iPods with commercials you would think there would be some respect for what WLNK is trying to do.

Hey I hear John Boy & Billy just signed a new contract. How will PPM affect them?

Incidentally, Robin Marshall - who has just written a book about horrible experiences in radio - recently moved to Charlotte after spending 25 years in New York radio, most recently at AC "Fresh 102.7." She's been doing weekends and swing for The Link for the last few weeks. If Greater Media does decide to go back to wall-to-wall music, first of all, they should retain the WBCY call letters ;D, but Marshall would be an integral part of that strategy.

I don't like how heavy the talk is on The Link. I'd rather it be music based. You can have a music-based format and still have personality.

I just don't think the AM and PM drive shows are entertaining or interesting. As such, it's just talk for talk's sake. However,my personal likes and dislikes are apparently in the minority as their billing indicates.

I think it would be great choice to end the talking. They did a decent job with HOT AC back in the 90s. However, this may not help their ratings, since they spent too many years doing talk radio. Most people I know stopped listening to them for over 6 years since they now refer them now as a talk station. Oldies, Classsic Hits or JACK FM, a format missing, would be a good choice of format. Modern AC??? I hope the switch will not be to compete with Kiss 95.1 and 96.1 the beat.

AAA.... please Charlotte Radio.... would someone please program a AAA format...
(ie; KGSR-Austin - WCLZ-Portland, Maine - KINK-Portland, Oregon - KBCO- Boulder, CO.)

Wouldn't 95.7 The Ride qualify as an AAA station, sorta?

By the way, I checked their playlist for this hour, and apparently, they preload their playlist by the hour. For example, I know that they're going to play "Positively 4th Street" in 20 minutes without even listening!

The Ride is more of a Classic Hits station than a Triple A. Now if they would add some 90's and currents to compliment their wider classic playlist they would be on fire. Does anyone remember Deep Cuts 95.7 back in the mid-90's? Unfortunately, I think Lingefelt is way too comfy catering to baby boomers who never left the 70's, which is a shame since there is lots of good new music that this crowd would probably appreciate.

Totally agree about WXRC adding 90's music, but they have to remain mainstream enough. That's why Deep Cuts didn't work, it went too deep.

WSB/Atlanta just added an FM simulcast at 95.5. Just sayin'....if a blowtorch like WSB does it, it's perfectly logical to speculate about WBT making a move to FM. And what is the only choice for them?
107.9.

Guys, WBT is already on FM.
Technically. 99.3 is/was to help WBT's signal issues at night and was added back before talkers started moving to FM. WSB, WBAP, WTOP, etc. have not added FM's for that reason. 107.9 in mono would kill 99.3's mono signal.

As of Noon today, you can remove WSB from that list. It's now on FM 95.5 -- see the Atlanta board.

I should have phrased better. I meant they had not necessarily just used an FM to fill gaps in the signal, there were other issues such as demographics, etc. Ratings usually go up after moves to FM and demographics get younger.
