1090 XEPRS Has Gone Back to Oldies Plus Wolfman - L.A. Daily News

MG Kelly produces quite a few shows including Live from the 60's with the Real Don Steele. So it'll probably be a rotation of the different programs. Still cant figure out if it'll be reruns of Charlie Tuna's morning shows.

This may seem like a silly question, but why not use DJs that are actually...alive?

All of the aforementioned DJs were great in their own time and I wouldn't mind hearing them as a special, like "Saturday Nights with the Wolfman" or something. But trying to put a bunch of their old clips together to make them sound relevant on a recurring basis here in 2024, and then use that to form the foundation of a station, even one with (ahem) very few listeners seems...strained.

Surely there are folks around who would gladly DJ for a very low rate simply as a labor of love. You know, folks who could give out the station phone number for requests (antiquated concept, granted, but consider the target demo), facebook pages, relevant current events (some acts like Franki Valli still perform, amazingly enough!) and just generally connect with the audience.

If this is just the guy's toy and he wants to play with it the way he wants, I say (as I have earlier in this thread) more power to him. Have at it sir, I wish I was in your shoes. But if there is any chance of making a go of it, you gotta connect with the listners today. Forty year old tapes of Charlie Tuna ain't gonna get it.
El Chingon will most likely be the local listener connect for 1090. So far, no website, streaming, Facebook, social media....but hey, they're running TV ads.

Marc Paskin is the person orchestrating the station. The 24/7 format launches today (Tuesday): XEPRS Flips To Oldies

So a bunch of dead djs with one live dj .. i give this 6 to 9 months. Look back at what Marc has done, nothing lasts long.

Say what you will about the longevity of this but… I’m thrilled. Between 1090 and 1260 I may spend just as much time on the AM band (if not more) than the FM band while driving around

They are not 24 Hours yet. Still running the Spanish stuff.
Correct. And when I tuned in Tuesday afternoon, the "live" element in the Oldies format was pretty lame. The deejay spent about three minutes explaining he was about to ask random people who might win the Presidential election. Not who they voted for, and why (although that would have been more interesting), but who would win. I assume the DJ was "on the street", but I didn't hear any background sounds (traffic noise, wind, etc.) that might indicate that. Then he asked someone (a passer-by) who might win. The passerby said "I dunno."

Not exactly riveting radio.

Yup, El Chigon is Mark Paskin.. ding!

So, one live jock---El Chingon (Mark Paskin), one alive jock---M.G. Kelly, and three dead jocks---Tuna, Steele and Wolfman.

And, listening to the live stream, more than a little dead air. Seven seconds between the end of the Tymes' "Wonderful! Wonderful!" and a jingle.

Dead jocks run really loose boards (forgive me, Charlie, Don and Wolf---and don't tell me you wouldn't have told that joke when you were alive).

Well, Robert W. Morgan certainly would have.

The more I see this, the more I start asking legal questions. I saw a comment in RadioInk from Ed Salamon asking that question. He was PD at a station where most of those DJs worked. If he's asking those kinds of questions, perhaps there's a legal issue here. I know the Wolfman estate syndicates his old shows. But how about those other people? Dead men may not sue. But how about MG?
