1090 XEPRS Has Gone Back to Oldies Plus Wolfman - L.A. Daily News

All good info. But... we were discussing XEWW's 77kw. We know XEPRS is 50kw. Also, I believe XEPRS is directional full-time, not just at night.
Shouldn't the 1090, its concession is marked as an omnidirectional station during the day, and directional at night. If not, it operates based on its technical approval, the IFT can impose a series of fines for an irregular operation.

In the case of XEWW 690, it is a station that was born as a category B, limited to 50kw, but when it moved from Tijuana to Rosarito, BC, it had an increase in its category, which can operate up to 100kw.

But its pattern is 100% directional to protect XEN-AM.

Stations in Mexico, by regulation, can operate with 15%+/- of their effective power. In this case, a 50kW station can work with 57,500 watts, the legal limit.

But if I hear an AT40 from 1980, 1981 or 1982 way over half the songs are not familiar.
This weekend's AT40 the 80s was from 1980 and listening to it reminded me of this conversation from a few weeks ago.

A small sampling of what was on the show:

If You Should Sail - Nielsen/Pearson
Sequel - Harry Chapin
On The Road Again - Willie Nelson
It's My Turn - Diana Ross
Everybody's Got To Learn Some Time - Korgis
Dukes of Hazzard Theme - Waylon Jennings
Guilty - Barbra Streisand/Barry Gibb
Woman In Love - Barbra Streisand
More Than I Can Say - Leo Sayer
Love On The Rocks - Neil Diamond
and at # 1: Lady - Kenny Rogers

plus AT40 Archives that include Telstar by The Tornadoes and Go Away Little Girl by Steve Lawrence.

The fact that *any* Classic Hits station aired a show with these songs this weekend, let alone the 100+ that air AT40 the 80s, is a testament to the standing power of these shows. None of these songs had any business being aired on the stations that aired them. (Since the 'B' shows are in Christmas mode there was no later 80s alternative for stations this week).

I would be happy to hear that countdown. Harry Chapin, Willie Nelson, Barbara Steisand (w and w/o Barry Gibb) , Leo Sayer, Neil Diamond and Kenny Rogers are the "B" show to no one.

1090 has been spanish catholic when i hear it at night

1090 Wolfman Jack Their website is up and running can now listen online
I've had this stream on for a couple of hours and during the California overnight hours it's been nice background music for working, with no DJ (dead or alive) and no commercials, just the occasional "1090 AM" sung ID. If they started playing moldy old recordings of defunct DJs, I'd quickly turn off.

ok, can someone remind me when the oldies hours are on the AM signal? Please, i cant remember

The OTA 1090 plays Oldies only from 7-9 am and Noon - 7 pm (PT) daily. Rest of the hours are Monte Maria. However, the website and app, it's Oldies 24/7.

There are probably contract issues keeping XEPRS from going 24/7 with the Oldies for right now.

shucks... 7pm is a bit too early right now for me to hear the oldies... if they ran it later in the night it would bury Seattle's signal.

Only weekdays, and the weekends?

Is the part of Alaska you're in, a couple of hours behind Pacific time? Maybe shorter daylight hours will help with night dx'ing.

1 hour behind pacific.. you dont get the 2 hours behind pacific part of alaska till youre way out in the western aluetians

One difference on the weekend is the Saturday morning fishing show called Let's Hook Up, that airs from 7-9 am.
Saturday and Sunday (according to his website) and Instead of emigrating to another station (as they had done at 97.3 FM), they decided to stay in 1090 AM taking advantage of the radio station's coverage.

In the 60s when KCBC and KGB in San Diego powered down at dusk in North County we had KUDE out of Oceanside or Wolfman on XERB The Mighty 1090, 50,000 thousand watts of Black Power out of Los Angeleeese playing black artists only. No one had a clue this happened because they were transmitting from Mexico
