But if I hear an AT40 from 1980, 1981 or 1982 way over half the songs are not familiar.
This weekend's AT40 the 80s was from 1980 and listening to it reminded me of this conversation from a few weeks ago.
A small sampling of what was on the show:
If You Should Sail - Nielsen/Pearson
Sequel - Harry Chapin
On The Road Again - Willie Nelson
It's My Turn - Diana Ross
Everybody's Got To Learn Some Time - Korgis
Dukes of Hazzard Theme - Waylon Jennings
Guilty - Barbra Streisand/Barry Gibb
Woman In Love - Barbra Streisand
More Than I Can Say - Leo Sayer
Love On The Rocks - Neil Diamond
and at # 1: Lady - Kenny Rogers
plus AT40 Archives that include Telstar by The Tornadoes and Go Away Little Girl by Steve Lawrence.
The fact that *any* Classic Hits station aired a show with these songs this weekend, let alone the 100+ that air AT40 the 80s, is a testament to the standing power of these shows. None of these songs had any business being aired on the stations that aired them. (Since the 'B' shows are in Christmas mode there was no later 80s alternative for stations this week).
