11 Alive News - now with HDTV and Republican bias

I was on WXIA/11 Alive's website, 11alive.com, and I noticed a special section called "The Republican Party in Georgia". I clicked on it, and the stories that showed up appear to have a Republican bias to them.

Without getting into politics, I will just say I don't like the looks of this.

Anyone heard of Sinclair Broadcasting and what they forced their stations to do? I thought that Gannett was not into this sort of thing.
 
Not to be an ass, but one would think that if you clicked on a link saying "The Republican Party in Georgia" you'd see stories that lean a bit to the right. Will you complain if (or when) there's a link that says "The Democratic Party in Georgia" and the stories there are written with a left slant? I highly doubt that Gannett is slipping into Sinclair territory with this one. Be careful when you make your Sinclair comparisons!

Allow me to clarify something.

A news organization is not suppost to have any bias or appearance of bias whatsoever. The fact that there is a special section dedicated to the Repubican Party, but not the Democratic party shows at the least the appearance of bias.

As for the Sinclair thing, I am not saying that WXIA or Gannett is going to go as radical as to produce on-air programming bashing democrats, like Sinclair did during the 2004 Presidential Election. What I was comparing to is that Sinclair waived their bias on their newscasts like a banner. There was clear appearance of bias in that case. WXIA has not done anything to that level yet, but sometimes small things can turn into something bigger.

All I am alluding to is that WXIA made the appearance of bias, and they should not. They should at the least counteract with a section for Democrats to show that they give equal time to everyone. I honestly do not know if there is true bias, but there is the appearance of one.

Where is this special section? I looked all over their (crowded & cluttered) home page and didn't see it.

It is in the US/World News Section (at least it was there yesterday).
 
Completely Disagree

Actually, I believe there's some legitimacy to what they've done. Their in-depth report called "The Story Of The Republican Party in Georgia" does hold journalistic merit. Remember, Georgia was a stronghold for the Democratic Party up until very recently. Exploring how that change came to be, and spotlighting those responsible for the change, is hardly bias.

After looking over the section, I don't see anything denigrating to Democrats. There's no name calling, no arguments over issues. It's a thorough accounting of how political change came to the state. There's no argument made whatsoever about whether that change was good or bad.

All in all, I would say it's been done in a pretty fair way.

Those are changing news stories - not "special sections". Geesh! Maybe The Democratic Party in Georgia will do something newsworthy tomorrow and have its own "special section"

I thought the whole point of NEWS is to report the TRUTH. Reporting is so slanted to the left on almost every news story I see that I have no respect or trust for anything they say. God have mercy on anyone who wishes to persue broadcast journalism.

Truth... yep, what an idea. Although my degree is in broadcasting/journalism, I never anticipated being a journalist. Production and programming was where I wanted to be, but I fell backwards into reporting in the mid 90's. Since then, I've been more and more disappointed with the lack of balance I see from so many other journalists. It's an important and admirable career, when done properly and accurately. Otherwise, you get crap like the CBS Memo-gate and Jayson Blair scandals.

And the solution to alleged media bias: More Republican-affiliated reporters.

I suggest Jeff Gannon...that is, if he doesn't have a date that night.
