1170 KLOK in the 1970's and early 1980's

Time for Hammerin Hank's Bay Area Radio History Trivia:

What format did 1170 KLOK program in the 1970's and early 1980's? :)

I listened to KLOK during those years. They had what today would be called a "soft adult contemporary" format. At one point KLOK had a gimmick called "yes/no radio," where listeners were asked to vote individual songs up or down. The AM was also simulcast for a few years on 103.7 KLOK-FM.

KLOK-AM and FM were never simulcast. They had separate jocks and programming. I only wish the Classic MOR format that KLOK-AM programmed in the 1970's would make a comeback!

I remember KLOK from the 70's -80's ,they weren't great but decent in most of what they did, my opinion. I recall in the early 70's I think the guy on in the morning was Buddy Hatton ,he'd ID three stations during his show ,he was on KWIZ Santa Ana ,KLOK San Jose and another one up in Seattle with his morning show. His show was pretty good.
What I didn't like about KLOK is the music overall ,it was never RnR ,never anything. I don't know what you'd call the format ,a mix of RnR / AOR I remember ?
I went to the studios / transmitter once around 1972 , I got a tour.

Buddy Hatton hosted the morning show on KLOK in the late 1960's-early 1970's, then he was replaced by Don Welsh in 1973(I think). I miss KLOK's old MOR format from the 1970's
and also the Yes/No Radio gimmick in the 1980's. I wish this station was still around today.

My understanding from a couple of friends who worked at KLOK was that Bill Weaver, who owned it and KWIZ, programmed to his own tastes and whims. More often that not, it produced okay results, everyone got paid and was treated well.

I really loved listening to KLOK-AM. Great personalities! Great music. On a nice day on the peninsula, I would sit outside and listen KLOK. Really great radio I always thought. And I recall listening to Ronni Richards who was at KLOK and then I think moved onto KWIZ. I thought she was really a very talented air personality. One of the best! And as i recall was briefly a television host of late evening Channel 36 movie program.

And my lovely wife also recalls her too and was impressed by her. According to my wife, Ronni was also a pilot too.
