12-12-12 Concert to air on 5 NYC radio stations

All of which are owned by Clear Channel: 106.7 Lite FM, 103.5 KTU, Z100, Q104.3 and Power 105.1. Several other CC stations throughout the country are airing as well, mostly rock stations. Though if the market doesn't have a rock station owned by Clear Channel, it will usually be on the station that's closest to rock in the market, such as 93.9 Lite FM (AC) Chicago, Lone Star 92.5 (Country) Dallas, and 101.7 The Harbor (Adult Hits) Boston. At the bottom is a complete list of stations throughout the country that will be carrying it.

I read that SiriusXM will also be carrying the concert on their E Street Channel (20) and their Pearl Jam channel (22). Enjoy.

This will be just like "Cartoon All-Stars To The Rescue," only instead of Alvin, you get Adam Levine.

What about the Hudson Valley CC stations, are they're planning on a benefit concert as well?

Rock 93.3 Poughkeepsie is carrying it, along with 103.7 WNNJ-FM, Newton, NJ

Ah yes, an 85% Rock concert in the Garden as a relief effort affecting the Northeast, for a city that supposedly doesn't care about Rock music.

I guess Lady Gaga and Niki Minaj are too good or busy huh.

If only they turned KTU into rock...not like we have 4 CHR stations in the market.
Can an alternative station bill what KTU is billing? I'm guessing not, so I guess you'll just have to listen to the modern rock station that exists in whatever suburb you live in. Sorry, but radio is a business, not a buffet meant to satisfy everyone's individual tastes. That's why there's noncomm and internet radio.

I feel (since the concert is supposed to raise funds for Hurricane Sandy relief) that the concert should be a pay-per-view cable event with 100% of the money from viewers paying to watch the concert going to the Red Cross.

What about the people this is supposed to benefit, some of whom are homeless, hungry and short on funds?
Granted, some of those folks may say they've got bigger worries at the moment than whether they can view a concert event, even if it's for their benefit.
(See how long it takes for the funds to trickle down to those who really need it - a thought for another thread in another forum.)

I'd think that the object of this event is to put it out on as many outlets as possible to raise awareness - then use the broadcast itself as a portal to raise money. Pay-per-view would severely limit that access.

As it is, the show will not be seen on any of the major over-the-air broadcast networks.
It will be seen over-the-air in the NYC area on WNET Channel 13 Newark, NJ/New York and WLNY Channel 55 Riverhead, NY (Cable 10).

Kudos to Clear Channel for carrying this lengthy but impressive benefit concert on so many of their stations.
It certainly was a change of pace to hear live rock music instead of Xmas tunes on Lite FM.

I didn't catch the special last night, because WRNQ's "Lite 92.1' in Poughkeepsie was running a special live broadcast of a radio play "It's A Wonderful Life" based on the 1946 film of the same name, and it was live at the Theater at Railroad Playhouse in Newburgh hosted by Joe Daily and Eliza Bender. I recorded that special and I ended up posting it online. But I missed that once in a lifetime special.

Wow! I didn't know any radio station still did that! Is this the only time they've done this? I'm not too familiar with that station, but I'm guessing it's an age-old tradition.

You can count me as a nerd - I was A/B(/C/D/E) comparing the concert on the five stations while in the car (did anyone else do it, or should I hide my face in a corner?). It was funny to hear the various delays in effect.

To my own ears, Q104.3 had the best audio for both the host vocals and for the stage music. 103.5 KTU took second in my book, also with audio that felt relatively good to listen to. The other stations were somewhat harsh. Power 105.1 had no top end on the dry vocals, and the music was a bit flat also, plus thick on the bottom. 106.7 Lite FM sounded a bit tinny and "spacy" in my opinion on the music, with vocals sounding rather smashed. Finally, Z100 had AWFUL dry host vocals that were way overdriven and distorted, and the music was way punchy and buzzy.

I understand the various stations are set for the music they normally play, but it seemed to me that some of the variations were a bit extreme, particularly Z100. Anyone else have thoughts?
