1330 KJLL Jolt Failure now 1330 KWFM Star HUUUUGE FAILURE!

Looks like the Jolt thinks by taking on some retired call letters they are going to try to distract people from what an utter failure that radio station is. Can that station stay on the air without silence for more than 20 minutes? I tried to tune into hear some local programs the last few day and there are none. They have lost every single show that they had back when John C was running the joint. Bill Randal got canned and there are blocks of dead air for hours and hours during the night. And the weekends are music??!

Same signal strength, same failed on air presence and same non-exsistent ratings. Just bulldoze this antenna already and sell the station to someone who can put on good local programs. I miss Ron Asta and his daily stories about making a cup of coffee.

So they took the calls, eh. Interesting. At this point, it would seem to be putting frosting on doo-doo. Anything of substance in the works?

One of 1330's hurdles is its poor signal on the northwest side of town including Oro Valley. Their best chance at success is with a Mexican format since their signal covers the hispanic parts of the area quite well, especially at night. Perhaps it's time they target their city of license, South Tucson.

Finally got to hear the "new" imaging of the station yesterday. Where on earth did that come from and what purpose does it serve? If they're going to do that why not take it all the way and call it super stars of talk or something. I also laughed wehn I heard them brand as "A Hudson Communications station" As silly as the Cumulus ID's. Even funnier that they only have one station.

Apparently GM Avalon now owns the station as well as a few others in different markets. Hudson is likely buying stations & building the brand. Smart move right now.

Let's see now-I think we all can agree that 1330 JOLT has never really been a radio station to be reckoned with in their current format. It's in a talk format with a bunch of second and third rate talk hosts -while both The Truth 104.1 and Knst am-fm and Kvoi have more well known and much better talent-like Rush,Sean etc. So if you were the G.M. of now Kwfm 1330,what would you do? What does changing call letters do for you if you are still providing the same old format with the same talk shows? The last time I saw the radio ratings in the paper, Kjll was nowhere. If I were the manager I would try something else-there's nothing to lose.
What are your opinions-let's get some action on this site.

The dirt those towers sit on would be worth quite a pretty penny. As I recall, when the site was picked, the neighbors in the area (what few there were at the time...) were all up in arms - until they learned the towers weren't going to be lit.

Let's see...a bit over thirty four (wow!) years ago, a CHR-like format was put on that blowtorch and beamed into the nether regions of South Tucson.

"<...>fully serves the Tucson area with the cleanest signal on the AM band. <...> KWFM is one of only a few AM stations in the USA that actually raises the transmitting power at night, rather than lowering it." (wikipedia)

What goes there to serve a population of ~6000 people today that'll keep the pow-pow-power on the antenna and the lights on in the studio?

Perhaps Hudson needs a clue from the esteemed readership here. ;D

They have Ed Schultz and Tom Hartmann, both first rate progressive talk personalties. I know they are in the top 10 nationally. Colmes, Miller, Handel and Browne are all highly regarded as well. In all fairness, I don't see why everyone is bent on putting down this station. I listen to Schultz most days and they are never off the air when I listen. The sound is also better lately.

wtf?

You're kidding right? Friday from 10:30 AM till around 2 something 1330 AM the Joke was off the air. I like Ed Shultz and Michael Smerconish but everytime I try to tune in they have technical problems. And as far as the sound is better lately? Than what? The old imaging? You have 1 audio drop that says "KWFM Sooooooooouth Tucson" that plays over and over again. The sound of that radio station, when it's not playing PSAs from 2007 in the exact same timeslot they played in 2007, is horrendous. The Jolt has sounded like garbage for the last 5 years. The only thing that kept it fresh is the constant turn over of pay to talk programs. And now that all of those are gone, it's stale.

And to address your comment on Hudson buying up other stations..in other markets, what are you talking about? What stations? You understand those kinds of purchases are public knowledge right? You can't just toss out a lie and expect people to believe you. The reason this radio station gets judged by so many is the amount of garbage it spews out about itself. Acting as if it is in the same realm as KVOI KNST etc, but really is ranked lower than some of the broadcasts that go out over some pirate station driving around in a van being chased by the police. Please Judy, name off the other stations that Hudson is working on in the Market. Maybe they should take alllllll that money they have and instead of building their brand, repace the Tucsons Jolt sign on the front of the building. Eh Star?

Why do I have a feeling YOU'RE the new GM?

Doesn't matter if they have Shulz, Colmes and the like if it gets a fricken 0.0!!!! May as well just shut 'er down...
Better sound? You are talking about AM correct? Possibly if and when it is on the air and when stop lights, power lines, etc are not interfering.

Action plan...1) stay on the air. 2) Maybe the Jolt KWFM/Star should buy the old yellow COOL van off of Clear Channel. It's rotting away in the parking lot on Oracle with a flat tire. Right next to the 92.9 "The Mountain" van. Classy!

Perhaps there is some trading that could be done to help out both CC & Hudson with a deal like that! ;D

"CC - "Where promo van wraps go to die!"

How about The Smooth Jazz Network? It would be a departure from what else is in the market AND it does seem to work based on my personal experience at an AM affiliate in a different market.

New rumor that the Owner Stan Sprei is now exhausted with the fines for license violations, past debts and other employee/employer infractions that he's stuck paying out of pocket. The Jolt/Star/Joke maybe dark sooner than we anticipated. Just another big dead antenna out in the Tucson desert.
