1360 WGBN, Hit With a $25,000 Dollar FCC Fine For Tower Lighting Violations.

WGBN Has been hit with a fine of $25,000 by the FCC for tower lighting violations. An Inside Radio article lays out the fine details as “Tower Violations and Procedural Shenanigans.” According to the FCC document, the fine violations are based on their 2 Lincoln Borough towers. Lack and upkeep of tower lighting, maintaining the towers appearance, Inadequate notices to the FAA dealing with the tower lighting issues, and the paperwork concerning the issues filed with the FCC. In the document,an FCC Forfeiture Notice was released on July 23 by the regional enforcement bureau dealing with the issues at hand. The matter reaches as far back as 2016 when the Enforcement Bureau issued a “Notice of Apparent Liability for Forfeiture (Notice) proposing a $25,000 forfeiture against Pentecostal Temple for willful and repeated violation of section 303(q) of the Communications Act of 1934”.

The Bible teaches that we are to obey the law and to look out for the safety and well-being of others.
It does not behoove a church to be flaunting the law in this way.

McKeesport is a very short distance from the County Airport as the crow (or the Cessna) flies.
Having these towers unlit and in this condition is putting lives in jeopardy.

And apparently the FCC believes that it was misled, which again is not behavior you
should expect from church people.

Loran Mann has earned a lot of respect in this town over many decades.
It's a shame to see it being thrown away over this.

I think all of us should have a little keyboard restraint with comments on what we think we know about the situation. None of us have any inside information about the issues. I myself know that the tower painting and lighting had been resolved way prior to this notice coming out. It seems like you all want to condemn the owners of something that you have no real knowledge of.

I love the line in the FCC notice of the fine "Penetcostal Templeengaged in procedurally deficient shenanigans".. that says a lot about what we need to know

We're condemning them? Seems to me the FCC are the ones who took care of that.

It is not the first time they have raised such issues with this operator either.

Loran Mann has Proven he is not a Radio Station Owner / Operator . Renda should have Donated 1360 to the Knights of Columbus Bellevue,They had a CP for an FM Station in Evan's City , and they buy time from Local Stations.

There's a reason that fm cp was never built.. they realzied it would be costly to build and figured out everything involved in runnign a station.... and there's alot less involved in running a small non commercial full power or lpfm then a commercial station. the knights of columbus runnign A 1360 WGBN would've been an even bigger disaster then it is now

We really should expect much better from Rev. Mann and his church.

These religious fanatics are some of the worse FCC rule violators out there. I remember hearing a story from a friend of mine about a small AM station down South. Licensed as a 250 watt daytimer. Well there were some religious fanatics who bought time during morning drive on the station and they made the station crank up the power to 1000 watts. The FCC inspector showed up one morning and issued a fine for that. In addition the station had other violations and soon that station was out of business.

I wouldn't exactly call Loran Mann a religious fanatic.
He had a long career here as a broadcaster, first as a DJ and then as a longtime
newscaster with WPXI. Not like some guy with a church who just decides on a whim
one day that he'd like to own a radio station.

Did not know that. What a great story.

He has for many years been the pastor of a fairly mainline church in Pittsburgh's African-American community.
He and his church have done much good there. Another reason why this fine surprised me so.
