Well the ProJo finally decided to acknowledge there are rado stations in RI. Good article on Paul & Al in today's edition.

About to negotiate their seventh contract
Best book ever
Paul says it would be absurd to leave HJY
Corwin says he would never intend not to keep them

I thought this was a fantastic article on them ... really made them seem like human beings. Must be nice to be on top! Let the bashing of Paul and Al begin! (They are a Clear Channel morning show ... and we know how everyone on this board hates everything that happens in that building!)

I have to admit at times I get tired of them but then I always come back. The article was correct in that they have a handle on the area.Others may try but they just don't succeed in that respect.I wonder who else in the market is in that six figure category?Probably Joannie at Coast,DeGraide,Charles, maybe Jefferds.

I still believe their time at HJY is winding down, not because it should be but going by the history of the cluster in Providence. If they can find a way to keep their numbers and revenue on the morning show with a less expensive duo then that will be done.If HJY continues its mix of classic and new rock then they will update their version of classic to 80s,90s,and beyond.Older stuff will continue to move over to B101 and HJY will want a younger staff at that point.Corwin would not keep them out of sentimentality in spite of his comments. Now the question is how safe would cutting them loose be?Let's see how Quinn and Cantara prove out for the future.

Paul and Al are entertaining to a certain audience, but for people that fall into the 18-30 category - they are a little too corny. I think putting them on B101 and then trying to get a new morning show (or simulcast the Morning Buzz from NH) would be a good move. I just think the bits that Paul and Al do are just getting old and repetitive.

On a positive note - I have met Paul and he is one of the nicest guys in the biz. He helped me out when I was trying to do a concert for charity a few years back - so I wish him the best. I just don't think he fits at HJY anymore.

No, let's not import the Morning Buzz from New Hampshire. The Buzz is a good show, but it belongs in New Hampshire. HJY is in market #34, it can and should find its own morning show.

On a side note, Paul and Al tend to draw an older audience. HJY plays more classic rock in the morning than the rest of the day, so in a way they're on target. If WRX was still on the radio, then maybe we'd be saying 'move Paul and Al to WRX'. But WRX is not on the air. B101 is not the place for them too right now, even though B101 tends to lean toward classic rock at the moment, Paul and Al still belong on HJY.

Hell, Jimmy Gray stayed on PRO-FM for how long? I'm sure nobody said "move him over to Lite."
