1580 and the Station You Wish To Hear Most on it

In the retro days 50 years ago, there really wasn't anything missing. One sunset session we heard every possible station there was to sign off and wound up with a faint KDAY from Santa Monica. There wasn't anything left to WANT on 1580.

So up and out here in NE PA, I guess I'd like to log KDAY for the new list. But I don't think any of the 1580 stations between here and California sign off anymore. I guess I'd settle for any station west of the Susquehanna.

I'd be happy with anything else either then KFCS Colorado Springs CO, KAMI Cozad/Lexington, NE and KQFN Mesa/Phoenix all of which is all i hear from here in Laramie WY

Only thing that's even remotely hopeful here is KAMI Cozad NE, Classic Country. I've logged KGAL, KWLO, CKDO, KBLA, KQFN (ex-KMIK), KKTS and KFCS here. Everything else is low power or back east.

I'm going with WIFE in Connersville IN as one to hear in East Tennessee on this very interesting frequency. Especially with 4 night watts. There was apparently a confirmed reception from Norway of them with the 4 watt power. I wouldn't have thought that possible but after DXing on the Norway SDR rig, I can see it

I tried a number of times for the 1580 in Fort Lauderdale. Never heard it.

It used to have a terrific signal in San Juan, PR. Actually, a pest level signal!

I would believe it too. I think it was WAMW (Washington, IN -- 5 watts night authorization), which posted a QSL card from Sweden on its social media several years ago.

@ CyberDad v WSHE FortLauderdale : Hang in there. All it took was a Class Ten auroral night one month apart for us to log both WYFX 1040 Boynton Beach and then WSHE 1580.
Imagine -- a one-month Aurora. A full four weeks of those nuisance lights in the sky at night, lol.
I'm sure such conditions weren't the case, though. Reception was on a barefoot GE SR 2, outside my apartment. So I never got to tape either of them.

My cabbie stature rose a few notches one sunset when I invited a few of the drivers outside where I had the car radio playing WLIM 1580 in Patchogue and had called the station. The guy on the air said hello to me (and us in Pottsville) and mentioned me by name -- and that I used to work there -- wow.
One comment was from this younger cabbie, who asked 'Don't they play any new songs?'
WLIM was Standards at the time.

(Blush .... the most recent 1580 catch here in NE PA was CKDO. I say 'blush' because I think every DXer east of the Pacific Ocean heard them before I did this past March).
