2 FM Talkers in Knoxville Noted in TRN Promo

TRN is taking ads to promote FM Talkers (and TRN programs you can air on them) to the radio world. In fact, at this time, their ad is among others rotating in the banner spot at the top of this page. One of their selling points is that Knoxville now has two FM Talkers, WOKI and WNOX, and they urge other stations to "be next."

While Knoxville isn't the first market to have two FM Talkers (I guess sports stations are now in a class all their own and not considered talkers, especially since TRN doesn't have any sports programming), is this the first time Market 71 has been lauded as a leader in helping set a national radio trend?

Another market with 2 FM talkers that comes to mind right away is just down the road in Chattanooga. They have Citadel's WGOW "Talk Radio 102.3" and Brewer's WPLZ "News Talk 95.3". (not to mention Citadel's WGOW AM "NewsRadio 1150" which carries a seperate talk format from the FM).

Yes, that's right, I had forgotten about that, even though I spent the day sampling the new News Talk 95.3 when I was last in Chattanooga a few weeks ago.

I really like their tie-in to The Pulse weekly newspaper; more News Talk stations could benefit from such. Although it's not a first, Brewer can consider itself a leader in setting what should be a new trend.

Totally missed TRN listed WNOX as KNOX in the ad!

Plus, down South 75, at noon today, Cox just brought WSB over for an FM simulcast. As radio faces pay to play, the great Talk Switch begins!

While WNOX 100.3 and WOKI 98.7 are the only "true" full-time FM talkers in the area, there are more to mention:

- WUOT 91.9 is mostly talk
- Victory 92.7 has talk all afternoon (Rick & Bubba)
- BBN 95.3 is mostly talk (religious, but still talk)
- Sports Animal 99.1/99.3 is all talk (albeit sports)
- WIMZ 103.5 is talk all morning (John Boy & Billy with very few songs thrown in)
- WPFT 106.3 is ESPN radio (again, sports, but still ALL talking)

Music on radio is disappearing. It's just a fact. And, jetfli, you're right -- with "pay to play", stations that are full-time music will become the minority. Sad.

You would think that someone from WNOX would contact them and have them correct their error.

Those stations aren't carrying any TRN content. It's a TRN advertisement. Duh.

I believe the point the poster was making is there are other talk stations in the market in addition to WNOX and WOKI whether or not any of them are TRN affiliates.

That's correct, jmtillery. My intended point was that talk is becoming more and more prevalent on FM. Sorry it that wasn't evident.

On the other point, it is amazing that TRN and WNOX haven't changed that ad in over a week.

But none of the stations you listed are actually "talk" stations.

Fail.

I agree with Elkhosen. Of course, there is the issue of whether WNOX (or Citadel, for that matter) could change someone else's ad. Anybody on here have any experience in such matters?

I think Pirkle should call the network and tell them thanks for the ad but the call letters are wrong. The call letters are just NOX.

Absolutely, he should call them right now and tell them to switch it to just "NOX"

And then plaster the "NOX" crapola on everything else that will take a stich or screen.

'Cause at this point "NOX" means less than nothing.
