20 years ago this week Hartford gets its first full-market commercial Urban station

It was 20 years ago this week (I don't remember the exact date) that Hartford got its first full-market commercial Urban station. It was the last week of March 1997 when Mega Broadcasting flipped WNEZ AM 910 from a Spanish Romantica format called Romance 910 to Urban Contemporary JAMZ 910. The station would last just over 4 years til the first week of May 2001 when they pulled the plug and began simulcasting sister station MEGA 1230 WLAT before 910 took the Mega name and WLAT call letters. I remember a few times JAMZ 910 getting ratings in the low 4s. Prior to JAMZ 910's arrival Urban music in Hartford was relegated to the low-power WKND AM 1480 out of Windsor (which today is a Mix of R&B Oldies, R&B Hits, and Urban Talk shows and also airs on 97.5 FM - The Power 97.5) and low-power 89.9 Qute-FM from Weaver High School.
