2008 Golden Globe winners will be revealed in LIVE press conference Sunday night

Re: 2008 Golden Globe winners will be revealed in LIVE press conference on NBC

I really don't know what to make of this. Thoughts?

This doesn't look good for the upcoming Screen Actors Guild Awards, Grammys and Academy Awards either. I'm kind of surprised though that the People's Choice Awards are still going to be held tomorrow night but don't be surprised that this gets shelved at the last minute because of this.

The PCA's are going to be presented in a news magazine format from what I read somewhere. Queen Latifah will host but basically show the winners and then clips from various tv shows and movies instead of an actual award ceremony.

<sarcasm> Sounds like fun, I cant wait to tune in.</sarcasm>

They should have the Publishers Clearing House people go to all the winners door and hand them their award.
Yes. Preferably every week for life. Just like in the commercials.

:-X

These award shows are so boring lately and dragged out for 3 to four long hours with a bunch of bolony to fill time anyway.a 90 min to 2 hours is long enough for award shows . Music awards move along better with the performances.Just hand out the awards without the bullcrap filler between.

LOL. That would actually be entertaining in itself. But I want to see the entire delivery, including getting out of the car, attempting to get past security...etc. :D

The Globes winners' announcement was going to be an NBC exclusive. Not anymore, as the HFPA scrapped that plan late Friday and opened the event's doors to journalists from other outlets (including, for one, TVGuide Network). This comes after NBC and Dick Clark Productions couldn't agree on a "nominal license fee" for the network to pay.

More here and here from the LA Times.

Opinion: The original "only on NBC" plan for the news conference was a pretty bad idea, though I imagine it was a way to keep NBC happy. But once the awards ceremony was reduced to a press conference, the "if it walks like a duck" rule applies. Too bad the HFPA didn't reaized this until after NBC griped about a licence fee. I wonder if this will have an effect on NBC's future relationship with the event.

But if there's a bright side to all of this... it's that the WGA will no longer plan to picket the press conference on Sunday.
