2008 predictions or nostrildammass of radio

1. Entercomm will have a new fm format this year
2. Cliente 1440 will get into the top 10 12 plus stations
3. Warm will re hire Harry West and it will be warm land rememberd all day every day...
4. The Q will stay the same and people will wonder why it dosn't do any better in the ratings
5. Wick in an effort to mimmic the success or rte 81s etnick progranning will go wall to wall Jolly joe
it will be called "joe"

6 Wpel will go hot christian
7 Rock 107 hd will take the air and the first station to go on will be "walt" named after Walter Nepasky ... They will replay the Scranton City Council meetings over and over and over and over
8. Someone will automate after 5 pm
9. Imus will visit for a while
10 Bob Cordaroe will have his own radio show... He will give his take on the area. Oh that will be a hoot

My predickshuns (pre-dick-shuns = "shunning dicks in advance"):

1. Route 81 will sell out or, at least, start looking.

2. Caliente will fold. The instances of foreign-language stations making it are few and far between, except in cities like NY. It won't work here; there just aren't enough Hispanics in the area to keep three stations viable.

3. With new management, if Route 81 sells or changes formats, WNAK might go back to standards -- a format lacking in this market and one which is viable.

4. WARM is an engineering disaster. A company with $$ might be able to fix up the transmission problems and use 590 as a "repeater" for its primary NYC station, reaching (if possible) the growing Pocono area. Better yet, move the station closer to Monroe County and protect WICC-600 in Bridgeport.

5. WVIA will keep its AM-FM-TV sign on 315. Whatever did happen to their planned operation on AM?

1. Route 81 will sign a contract to officially replace John Tesh with Bob and Tom as Bob and Tom are on 94.3 most mornings anyway. Then they will have to pay for it. Oops. Guess that won't happen will it?
2. Caliente will fold in Nanticoke. It apparently has in Carbondale. Nothing but carrier for almost a week straight on 1440
3. Route 81 will replace the tower lights in Carbondale that have not worked for a couple of months after a near miss by aircraft is reported or a heavy fine is levied or both. Hint to cash strapped station: now is a good time to get all those red lights without paying for them. Lots of them are on shrubbery around houses this time of year
4. Route 81 will try to figure out how to reduce the nighttime power of Caliente (that must mean Dead Carrier in Spanish) 1440 from 5KW to it's legal level until they realize it might cost a couple bucks to have someone look at it so they will continue to roll the dice
5 After a visit to Carbondale by the commission to look at all of this Route 81 will be shocked to find out that it is also illegal to have no staff presence whatsoever in the main studio
6 Lyra and his pirates will walk away from the ruins with full pockets and move on to their next victim. Be very wary!

I hit the 730 AM button on the radio the other day and it sounded like they were operating on 27 Watts of power...They have to start feeding the hamster more protine to get him or her running a littel faster in the cage.

After looking at the Fall 12+, I just wanted to go on record as saying that I LOVE The Q (...before the station goes away). I'm not a big fan of the voice guy... I think his sound is a little harsh for a hot AC station. And, I could do without the hockey games. But the music is perfect, and Keith Edwards is pure/evil genius.

1. Route 81 will sign a contract to officially replace John Tesh with Bob and Tom as Bob and Tom are on 94.3 most mornings anyway. Then they will have to pay for it. Oops. Guess that won't happen will it?

(I wonder if this is related to the rats-nest, convoluted computer mess left by the previous "programmer"?)

2. Caliente will fold in Nanticoke. It apparently has in Carbondale. Nothing but carrier for almost a week straight on 1440.

(Perhaps it's time to replace your broken radio)

(They discovered the tower lights don't need to be on, the tower is less than 200'! They've been shut off on purpose. Perhaps you should read up on the rules...)

4. Route 81 will try to figure out how to reduce the nighttime power of Caliente (that must mean Dead Carrier in Spanish) 1440 from 5KW to it's legal level until they realize it might cost a couple bucks to have someone look at it so they will continue to roll the dice.

(prove it!)

5 After a visit to Carbondale by the commission to look at all of this Route 81 will be shocked to find out that it is also illegal to have no staff presence whatsoever in the main studio.

(prove it!)

6 Lyra and his pirates will walk away from the ruins with full pockets and move on to their next victim. Be very wary!

For the record:
40+ years I have been an engineer in this market. There aren't many AM sites here that I haven't been in and that includes WCDL. I feel that it is irresponsible to blatently disregard the regs. To look the other way from poor engineering practice and illegal operation is to condone it. I am ashamed to say that in the past there have been a few times that I have been guilty of doing that but no more. Anyone who condones this sort of thing is giving a black eye to all who honestly try to abide by the rules. With that preface I respond as such:

(They discovered the tower lights don't need to be on, the tower is less than 200'! They've been shut off on purpose. Perhaps you should read up on the rules...) Perhaps you should carefully remeasure your tower

4. Route 81 will try to figure out how to reduce the nighttime power of Caliente (that must mean Dead Carrier in Spanish) 1440 from 5KW to it's legal level until they realize it might cost a couple bucks to have someone look at it so they will continue to roll the dice.

(prove it!)OK. That's quite easy.

5 After a visit to Carbondale by the commission to look at all of this Route 81 will be shocked to find out that it is also illegal to have no staff presence whatsoever in the main studio.

(prove it!)OK. That's easy too. In fact I've already been there and it's been so noted.

6 Lyra and his pirates will walk away from the ruins with full pockets and move on to their next victim. Be very wary!

[EDIT]Ah Ah Ah. Shame on you. Maybe you don't remember Telemedia. I do.

That's not nice!

Oh and by the way. Just for the record this morning I did indeed hear audio on 1440 but when I checked 730 it was just dead air. You might want to check your radio

Oops. Spoke too soon. Just heard Ingram/Jones "Just Once". I don't even think Magic or Lite play that one :p

Elmer...

Maybe you've never heard its better to be silent and thought an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Congratulations! You've just outed yourself and just some of the violations the FCC could spank you for. You should do your homework... there is someone in the Tunkhannock area you really don't want finding out about this stuff.

Trust me.

:-X

No money for Lyra this time.Just his cell phone shoved up his arse while his car heads back up 84 to Providence.
