2009 Nominees-Texas Radio Hall of Fame

The list of nominees for the Texas Radio Hall of Fame was released by Larry Shannon this morning.

Houston put up an impressive list of names including: Colonel St. James, Wash Allen, Pam Ivey, Doug Harris, Jay Hoker, Andy Hudak, Lana Hughes, J.P. Pritchard, Dan Patrick, Dr. Bruce Nelson, Jerry Mueller, Mary McCoy, Robert McCloud, Joe Ladd, Barry Kilgore, Larry Kane, Red Jones, Dusty Black, Bill Bailey, Scott Arthur, Ed Brandon, Debbie Brazier, Ken Charles, Ken Collins, Shotgun Cook, Harold Gunn, Larry Galla, Cathy Forsythe, Brad Edwards, Dave Ward, Jay West, Jack Pieper, Lee Randall, Johnny Shannon and Ron Selden.

While a decision has not been made where to have the event this year, I can say with some authority on the matter (as I was elected to the TRHofF Council of Advisors) that the more votes placed from a particular geographical locale does have a tremendous impact on where the event will be held.

Due to the Houston-heavy nominees, I made a descision to push back the Houston Radio Reunion to Spring 2010, so that we (hopefully) would be able to host, produce and present this event this year. SO-if you are a member, please vote. If you are not, kindly consider signing up, and recognizing the efforts and talents of some very amazing people.

I just want to say how honored I am to be included with this group of such talented people. They are all Hall of Famers to me! I wish them all the best if luck. Of course, any support I can get from my fellow radio-infoers, is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all of you in advance.

Also, I'm glad to see that the next Radio Reunion is tentatively scheduled for next Spring. I had a blast at the last one, and Josh you can count on seeing me at the next one, too! Oh and I'll be sure to bring my own muscle relaxers to this next reunion!! HAHAHA!! I wouldn't miss this for the world. If you need any help, just holler!

Very happy with the heavy Houston results. Glad to see the Colonel on the list. Wash Allen is long overdue to be in there. He is a true legend.

As far as the Non-Houston nominees go, I was glad to see Tony Bridge's name on the list, as well as Mitch Carr who along with Suzie Humphries, Jody Dean, Michael Ray, and the great Ron Chapman made up the best morning show on KVIL in DFW. Glad to see Mitch is still with Jody now on KLUV in the Metroplex.

Good luck to all the nominees.

Primarily because of the doings of my friend, Chuck Dunaway, I'm a Premier Member of the Texas Radio Hall of Fame, I'm proud to say.

It bothered me that a huge portion of the inductees each year was from Dallas-Ft. Worth, and that it was apparently hard for the board to figure out how to even the playing field. Things are much better this year. Hopefully they'll now start working on how to also recognize those who worked in smaller markets. One who most certainly should be an inductee is the great VANDY ANDERSON of Galveston's KGBC who, with his staff, led the island through many hurricanes.

I'm especially pleased that this year Scott Arthur and Rowdy Yates hit pay dirt. Two great Houston radio personalities.
