23 Hair Nation apparently gets airplay at Montana snowboarding event

The lede sentence of a Helena, Montana, newspaper's article about a snowboarding event mentioned Hair Nation.

To wit, the article began:

Snowboard clinic at Great Divide helps hone skills on the mountain

The Hair Nation Radio Station blasted ACDC’s “Back in Black” from speakers hanging above the terrain park at Great Divide Saturday as snowboarders slid over rainbow rails and spun 360s.

It was a free clinic day for ’boarders, with the BS2 CRU — that’s the Big Sky Board Sports crew, to the uninitiated — helping intermediate-skilled skiers and snowboarders learn to ride and hone their skills on the obstacles in the terrain park.

Granted, it was a reference in passing. But it suggests the station is getting a bit of exposure. :)

Speaking of Hair Nation, their playlist seems WAY tight to me. Is this the same on other channels? Sure it's a niche channel, but to be hearing "Rock You Like A Hurricane," "Round And Round," "Photograph," etc. at least twice a day is a little much. Why are they treating it like a terrestrial station and running the "hits" into the ground? People are tuning in because they like this type of music already. You hear the occasional deep cut, but they're few and far between. I just don't get it.

Agreed..started off listening to hair nation all the time and after a few weeks have found myself hitting buzzsaw and octane more often. Hair Nation seems to have a limited playlist based on the big hitters of that genre...and then they toss in the hits of the not so big hitters of the time (Tora Tora, XYZ, Dream Theater). Might that have to do with licensing?

I've also noticed that some bands/songs manage to cross over to other stations...the other day I heard Metallica on Hard Attack, but heard it the day before on Buzzsaw...where I might hear Dio or Sabbath on Hair Nation, Buzzsaw or Hard Attack. <P ID="signature">______________
