Thanks to the stupid cable company (Cox) in Phoenix and its love affair with left coast feeds,
the marathon on its analog cable system won't begin until 9 PM MT.
To a degree, I can understand the rationale behind taking the West feeds. We are the equivalent of Pacific Time for nearly 8 months; during that period, the start times of programs on West-feed networks are generally reasonable, and what the programmers intended. It's just 4 months that we have to deal with the hassle of being Pacific Time + 1. Taking East Coast feeds for many dual-feed networks would result in too many premier cable programs airing at times that are much earlier than what the programmers intended.
I still wish they'd switch to the east coast feed during the four months of standard time, but I
do agree that the left coast feed is more palatable during DST.
Many dual-feed cable nets showcase their "prime time" from 8-11 PM ET/PT, so having it run
6-9 PM MT November-March wouldn't be terrible, and certainly better than the left coast feed
from 9 PM-12 AM MT.
Is Cox Cable too cheap to bring a few people in on OT twice a year (time change overnights) to
reset the incoming feeds from east to west or v.v.? Someone even suggested that a computer
program could be written to automate the feed switches, so no staff OT would be needed.
It could be worse - we could be the equivalent of Mountain Time year-round...(snip)...not to mention the horror of dealing with abundant sunshine and 115 degrees at 9:15pm in July.
It may be 115 degrees on some July evenings but there'd be no abundant sunshine at 9:15 PM.
The latest PHX sunset on MDT would be 8:42 (late June), plus another :25 or so to civil dusk.

And 8 PM isn't?
I guess Turner doesn't think so, as 8 PM is the first showing in ET/PT.
