From what I understand -- the experts here can chip in if they want -- sports talk does well even with lower than average ratings because it's one of the few formats that caters to men. The other format targeted mainly towards men being rock.

Yes, this is entirely true. However, one can get tired of all the testosterone commercials. Yeah, we get it. Some older guys need to hear these. But, then again, this is called "targeted advertising", and good for stations that cater to men. While some sports stations have a hard time "rising" to the occasion, many of their listeners also have the same problem. But I digress.
