350 mile DX in Houston - XHAB-TV 7 Mexico

Right after the final analog shutoffs on the 12th I picked up analog XHAB-TV 7 using rabbit ears in NW Houston. They were playing a spanish Law & Order SVU.

Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, about 350 mi. Good audio, even picked up color a few times.

I also picked up a really pale channel 4 or 5 broadcasting the NAB DTV loop.

Currently watching KBTX using only rabbit ears in NW Houston (Cypress area), no blocking or anything. I never got a watchable analog signal here.
 
I too was able to get KBTX around the 290/ Bingle area right after they upgraded their digital tower about a month ago. Haven't been able to bring them in since, don't know what the deal is as the new maps show we should be bringing them in regular. Always got a poor but viewable analog signal, occasionally good for NFL Sunday football with an alternate game than KHOU.

KDFW/4 and KXAS/5 in Dallas-Fort Worth (transmitters in Cedar Hill, south of Dallas) are both serving as nightlights. But then I guess there are 4's and 5's that are closer to you that could be running the loop.

Both KGBT 4 and KRGV 5 in the RGV are serving as nightlights.
 
If you were picking up XHAB, then the 4 and 5 were most likely KGBT and KRGV (Rio Grande Valley). They are both running DTV promos. KRGV's promo says they will be running it for 30 days. For some reason, KGBT(CBS) promos are mostly in Spanish.

If they're using the NAB-provided video, the first half is English, then the second half is Spanish. The whole thing is open-captioned in both languages.
 
I got this station way before the digital transition.  This station would interfere some nights with KUHT causing a herringbone on the picture.  Here in Cinco Ranch, if I moved the antenna SW KUHT would turn black and white and breakup between the herringbones.  (I wonder what would KUHT look like if I was watching in Northern Houston and moved the antenna SW?) It or KTBC was causing a slight herringbone on the channel the night analog was switched off.  I think we had a tropo condition that evening.

The first time I saw it, I was surprised I was DXing a Azteca affiliate all in Spanish and in color (with some distortions) and good audio.  I had to look up their slogan on Google to find where that station is located and found the information on Wikipedia.

I guess I can see it more clearly with the Texas TV stations now in digital!
