4 Events That Can Impact Nashville Radio This Summer

4 Events That Can Impact Nashville Radio This Summer:

1. Steve Gill landing at a new station. What's it going to be -- the big stick AM talker, the sports talker for middays, a newly-flipped station, or a fringe signal? And what daypart will he land in with hopes of being syndicated?

2. Replacing Gill -- If one of Supertalk's gripes was that Gill was losing audience, what will they add with expectations of raising audience? Would a "morning news" show really be considered?

3. WNSR v. WNFN. Forget who wins, what will be the results? Will the judge order ESPN to stay, go back, or go elsewhere? And how would certain verdicts effect format and ownership at the two stations? And will that mass movement of COLs ever happen in order to raise the Fan's signal strength?

3. Whoopi Goldberg's new show for Premiere starts July 31. Will it clear in Nashville? What will make way for it?

Great post...

1. I for one am hopeful that Gill goes far away. I doubt he could though...I don't think there is another top 50 market that would have him. I think he faces a bigger challange in syndication. At least Phil has some other major market experience. I think the best bet is that he lands on WLAC.

2. Cumulus does have a tough choice in mornings now. I for one don't think that a higly produced news block could be that bad. When done right it can deliver ratings and revenue. Liddy is what needs to go to really give that station the line up it needs.

3. If WNFN loses ESPN I think it flips to a music format of somekind. Ratings have not been all that strong and I doubt they are ready to build a true competitor to The Zone.

4. I would be shocked to see Whoopi's show clear here...I for one doubt it will be around too long anyway. This is yet another celeb who thinks they can flip on a microphone and do talk radio. She will realize that this is not what she wants to do when she hits about month 6 or 7.
