$40 Gift Card Offer from Best Buy with JVC HD Car Audio KD-HDR1

I take them at their word. Their word is they're waiting. They could have just as easily said "no way, no how...IT AIN'T GONNA' HAPPEN!" You guys are so anxious to hear that, that you do (hear it) when it isn't even what they said!

Time will tell, and when it does, I hope we are all as gracious to you as you've been to us (the believers in this technology).

For what it's worth the Radio Shack in Kilgore, Texas has a big outdoor sign that reads "Give your car a present - Kenwood AM-FM with CD player - $79."

That sounds like a good deal to me.

Make no qualms about it, I beleive in the technology, my take is this isn't the 1960's/1970's when the U.S. took on to FM from the AM dial, THAT was the only thing they had besides 45's and LP records... what else was there besides AM/FM transistor radios?

But now with the internet, satelite, portable on demand devices such as Ipod's and mp3 players, and a host of other things such as cellphones equipted with internet and mp3 playing capabilities... HD radio has come too late...

Now if that same technology had come just before the Ipod revolution or satelite or the internet radio webstreams THEN it might have the viability you guys are asking of it... as of today in this age I'd say NO... but who am I? I'm just a consumer, I have no take on whether it succeeds or fails... I see it from the consumer side of things.. you guys see it from a radio business side so for you.... YOU want it to succeed...

When you start see kids, moms, dads with HD radios dancing on TV like the IPOD commercials, THEN I'll believe HD radios... till then it's just another business venture bound to fail or succeed.

Was there another sign on that storefront that read " Give your car a better present - JVC AM/FM HD CD player - $200.00".

I bet they didn't!

No, they don't stock any HD radios.

Good thing!

Another is this Guy Wire thread I've been reading in the past about HD radio...

Good points!

Who cares? There has to be a justification to remove a perfectly good AM/FM CD radio tuner in a car to buy this HD tuner?

About the only ones buying this if any would be the people upgrading the AM/FM cassette tuners out there for a chance to get the CD option or now the MP3 IPOD option.. in that case kiss the HD tuner above goodbye if it doesn't have the Ipod connection or mp3 capability....

Again... NO SALE.... even with the rebates!

Radiopilot

Well, the JVC does support MP3 playback and as far as tuners go, it is one of the better of the aftermarkets (the FM is probably the best of the aftermarket FM tuners... Kenwood having the worst AM or FM aftermarket tuners). It also does not have the dumb displays you get from the likes of Kenwood & Pioneer... all show and now go.

However, it does not have the 1/4" aux in.... but if I did need to replace my factory system with an aftermarket new stereo, it would probably be this one, not because of the HD, but because the tuner is pretty good in analog.
