40th Season of "Price is Right" on CBS--Including a Celebrity Week?!

Zap2it's "TV By the Numbers" has an article about the upcoming 40th season of TPIR on CBS, including a new set, special episodes (with highlights of memorable moments--but no mention if they'll include Bob's memorable moments or those with Drew only) AND--a Celebrity Week the week of Jan. 2, 2012. ::)

I wonder if the latter could give Saturday Night Live writers a hint for a skit? ??? ::) ;D

Celebrity Jeopardy was originally created by Norm McDonald for his Burt Reynolds impersonation, but it continued even after he was fired

I saw some of the show this morning.
They showed clips of the very first time PLINKO was played with Bob Barker. Some
woman played it. The top prize amount back then was $5,000. She won some money
but not that much.

I also saw part of the season premiere this morning. At first, I thought I was watching another re-run, as the set looked somewhat worse IMO. Then I realized this was the 40th season premiere. The set changes actually seem a bit retro to me, reverting back to the Barker days in some respects, especially on contestant row. Perhaps this was intentional. They did try to give away a nice Porsche, though. Unfortunately the dude playing had no clue.

BTW some of the most entertaining moments on TPIR are when newbie contestants have no idea how to bid, usually males probably dragged in by the girlfriends. OK, I guess I am way too much into this show! :)

Or when they gave away FOUR NEW CARS in Race Game (including, for the first time in TPIR history, a Mitsubishi), which was won in the first try!!

Which reminds me...was Most Expensive ever played for cars at one point?

To me, the most entertaining part of TPIR, is when a model eventually sues for harassment!

Booooooo

I agree there is nothing entertaining about such actions. As for the show itself, I lost interest in watching anymore after seeing the first new show of the second series of shows (season) with Drew Carey as host. If I were in charge of network programming such as "The Price is Right", I would have ceased production of the program for a few years until I decide when to revive the show. By that time, viewers and listeners would not come with expectations of the new program being very similar to the program hosted by Bob Barker.

If my idea had been reality, CBS could have either presented past editions of "The Price is Right" or a new game show in the same timeslot in the meantime. If the new game show were to be successful enough, it could have been offered as a syndicated program or moved to the former timeslots of "The Guiding Light" (I would have chosen the former option, as I would have never cancelled "The Guiding Light").

Carey has gotten better and actually throws in a few funny lines every now and then.

Bob Barker A
Drew Carey B- (I think a better host could have been found/was available)

Brady on Let's Make A Deal has gotten his groove also.
Monty Hall A-
Brady B

Yes...it might have been on either one of the nighttime specials (from the 2000's, not the summer '86 ones) or one of the final season premieres in the Barker era. (Maybe it's happened in the Carey era as well...not sure.)

I seem to recall that on the syndicated evening version, a contestant won a Ford Escort (hey, this has been awhile!) during the regular game, then returned for the showcase and won (among other things) a Porsche!
