46 years of Italian Music

This past weekend marked the 46th Anniversary of The Italian Show on WXCT AM 990. It debuted on Columbus Day 1969 just weeks after the station signed on as WNTY. It was originally on for one hour and has been on for 4 1/2 hours every Sunday since the 70s. It airs 8:30AM until 1:00PM. The show has had several different hosts over the past 46 years, but how many shows can lay claim to being on the air all those years? I know The Polka Power Radio show on WRYM AM 840 is descended from a Polka Show that started in the 1930s on WTIC.

That's a good run, alright! In Portland, The Italian Hour, beginning in 1958, ran with the same host for about 30 years and another ten after that but the Scandinavian Hour had the same host from 1942-98, with roots back to a week before the Grand Ole Opry in 1925!
