And the 70's on 7 is going deeper into the vault than I have ever seen them go before. They are playing some early 70's stuff I haven't heard in decades, and in few cases, tracks I didn't even know existed (and I pretty well know my 70's!). Really fun listening!
I hope they publish the list after the weekend is done.
To say they went deep into the vault is actually an understatement! They seemed to enjoy pulling much lesser known singles, deep cuts, and other rarities from lots of established artists such as:
BJ Thomas "Mighty Clouds of Joy"
Bread "Mother of Freedom"
Elvis Presley "I'm Leavin'"
Redbone "Maggie"
Chi-Lites "Stoned Out of My Mind"
Tyrone Davis "There it Is"
Wings "Getting Closer"
Triumph "Hold On"
Kansas "People of the South Wind"
Gerry Rafferty "Days Gone Down (Still Got the Light In Your Eyes")
Roberta Flack "If I Ever See You Again"
Dave Mason "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" (cover of the Shirelle's Hit written By Carol King and Gerry Goffin)
Moody Blues "Steppin' in a Slide Zone"
Kenny Rogers "Love or Something Like It"
Rick James "You and I"
Rita Coolidge "You"
Barbara Streisand "Love Theme from 'Eyes of Laura Mars'"
and my personal favorite: Bellamy Brothers "If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body (Would You Hold It Against Me)"
There were also lots of minor one-hit and no-hit wonders such as:
Jody Miller "He's So Fine" (Cover of the Chiffon's big hit)
Ashton, Gardner & Dyke "Resurrection Shuffle"
Jackie Moore "Sweet Charlie Babe"
Don Covay "I Was Just Checking Out"
Blackfoot "Highway Song"
Love and Kisses "Thank God It's Friday"*
Tuxeedo Junction "Chatanooga Choo-Choo" (the old Glenn Miller hit)*
Bobby Russell "Saturday Morning Confusion"*
Pipkins "Gimme Dat Ding"*
(If any of these artists have more than one hit, apologies, but I don't know about 'em)
* These ones have made rare but notable appearances on the regular playlist from time to time.
Oh, and there was an old LA Radio angle too, as they played the old KGBS duo of Hudson and Landry's comedy track "AJAX Liquor Store" which I had not heard in years, and was hilarious all over again.
There was plenty more where all of that came from. Fun to hear a lot of these very rarely played tracks. One minor criticism, they seemed to dip very heavily into the library of soul tracks, where I would have preferred to hear more rock tracks to balance it out (although they were represented as well, for example they played Foghat's "Stone Blue"). Overall, great job 70's on 7. Somebody must have had a lot of fun putting that together; I for one, had a great time listening.
