Bill, I say this with all the love in my heart. GET A POP FILTER OR WINDSCREEN! The pops were bothersome enough that I quit paying attention to what you were saying, and then stopped listening altogether. I checked a couple of other of your podcasts, and the problem was just as bad. So I resolved not to listen. A shame!

Audio quality is unimportant UNLESS it a)-is so good that it enhances the listening experience, or b)-is so bad, or has such an obvious defect, that it detracts from it.

As unfair as it may be, your podcast WILL be compared to broadcasts from the "big boys" (and girls). If you want to be heard, you've got to offer decent sound.

The problem is background noise and cramped work space. To cut back on the noise a Shure PG52 Kick Drum instrument mic is used. This cuts back on side noise and hiss coming from air cleaners, computers and ventilation. It's a direct line to the sound card and gain is very low. This means either screaming loud or chewing the mic. Many wind screens were tried and the best result was a quarter inch thick layer of cheese cloth. Also the podcast is run through an EQ to cut the hiss and soften some of the low end punch the mic provides.
There is another studio nearby and the sound there is perfect but for now the priority is upgrading computers and linking the podcast to video - check Youtube billcreata channel. As money comes in a better set up will be installed, all the equipment has been purchased but a bigger place is needed for the main studio. It's good to know people are listening, ratings are very good so far but go up and down depending on topic and promotion. Thanks for the feedback.

Re: Sound Quality Changes

Original podcast was "tuned" for play back on small ear buds and portable device, not the big soup can headphones radio people use. Listening to play back on larger headphones the bass and unwanted 'plosives were heard. New EQ settings have been used and backed away from the mic another 1/4 inch. Should sound better now, check the latest episode and post a comment. Fear it may turn into "telephone quality" with too much filtering. Also listen in archives for "China part 2" it was recorded on remote with most of the voice over made in the better sounding studio.
Thanks, George J.

political crap! ;D

Re: Political Crap???

Politics? You know what grabs headlines and gets ratings? Stories of sex, scandal and organized crime. That’s politics. Want examples? I could fill more than a book, it could fill an entire library! Yes, you got it; and it’s the same worldwide. This is the very cause of the podcast. Politics reaches right into every home, in your pockets, in your banks. Who could forget programs like "The Sopranos" or the movie "The Titanic" it's really the same story. Yes, very good, done right it can be a very juicy topic. ;)
