58 years of Beautiful Music comes to an end

I see.

I guess I won't bother, then. I'll try to name what I can, and forget about what I can't.

That said, if anyone has any leads on where I might find archival copies of other tapes (or better, the actual tapes themselves), I'd love to know, as I'm working on building up a collection of various Easy Listening tapes for my Part 15 station.

Do you belong to this group? If anyone knows where to get the music you want, they do.

Do you belong to this group?
Ah, interesting. There seems to be no topic too small for someone to have formed a Facebook group for.

I would join, but I am (fortunately?) one of the few people in my age group (20-40) who doesn't use Facebook, so I don't have an account (nor do I intend to get one).

I may, however, know someone who does do FB, and who may be willing to join and ask questions on my behalf.

I have asked people from that group to respond to this topic, but once they do, they might not come back for more.

Another song on WERT probably not suitable for beautiful music radio of the time.

"Walk on the Wild Side" by Jimmy Smith.

I'm wondering if "Senza Fine" by Brass Ring could have been on beautiful music radio.

WERT has really played a lot of instrumentals today, though a lot were more big band than beautiful.

And just now a train wreck with "Rumble" by Link Wray followed by "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You" by Tommy Dorsey. I guarantee "Rumble" wouldn't have made it onto beautiful music radio. Classic rock would be perfect for that song, even in 2023.

Hey cc333, I used the "Shazam" app while listening to KNCT, and it was able to identify 6 of the 7 instrumentals I was looking for info on, all were cover versions, except maybe Mantovani "Cavatina"?. The others were Geoff Eales, John Fox, BG Studios,, Wes Montgomery, and Francis Goya. It's worth a shot in trying to identity what's on those Bonneville tapes.

Also, if you get "No results" on the first try, do it a second time. Sometimes, a different part of the instrumental is needed before it can be identified. Good luck!

SoundHound is another good free app for that.

This isn't of utmost relevance, but I recently rediscovered in storage my collection of Easy Listening LPs (Reader's Digest, etc), much of which likely made it onto numerous Beautiful Music stations over the years in some form or another.

I should try to copy them, if only for the sake of historical preservation, because I don't think any of it is on the Internet anywhere, and I doubt any of it was released on modern media.

Take Five was on Westwood One Adult Standards in the mid-90s. Beautiful music stations, no.
Not a surprise. There were songs like the "Mission: Impossible" theme. Incidentally, it was Unistar, not Westwood One.

I will say less than ten years later WEZV Myrtle Beach was doing beautiful music with mostly instrumentals and lots of strings and they played Bobby Darin's "Beyond the Sea". There was nothing "easy listening" about the drums on that song, though the pounding was brief.

At the time I was working there, it was Westwood One.

Going back to New Age music:

You can still find New Age music on the Music Choice "Soundscapes" channel over most cable and satellite TV systems.

My girlfriend loves that channel!

Women like New Age for some reason.

I'm not sure what the definition is but I am willing to make only a few exceptions to the rule. "Orinoco Flow" by Enya sounds like real instruments, and there is also "Chariots of Fire" by Vangelis.

There was one song by Yanni which I recall was connected somehow with "Live at the Acropolis". That was either an album title or some big concert.

I like some of the early synthesizer-based New Age-like stuff (particularly early stuff, from before digital synths became popular, so 70s through early to mid 80s). I like Kitaro in particular.

Few do any more, and even back when The Wave debuted in LA over 30 years ago, new age was a niche format and niche music.

It depends on how many degrees of removal from this artist and the song is:

Chariots of Fire was a movie theme and not really considered to be New Age.

Really? Is "spa music" new age? That's a term I've been hearing.

I wasn't sure of the definition.
