6 Temple Women's Basketball games on WPHT 1210 AM this season

6 games will air on 1210 AM this season including the game on right now as of this post time: http://owlsports.cstv.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/111606aag.html I must say that I'm not surprised but it’s long overdue. The basketball program has improved a lot since Dawn Staley took over as head coach. They have made appearances in the NCAA's in the past few years. According to the story on the link posted "the Radio package provides best exposure in program history" and on a station that PEOPLE listen to daily, not like 990 AM, 1340 AM, etc when some of their games aired in the past. Even though its 6 games, Temple is happy no matter what that some of the women's baskeball games will be heard a station people listen to that has ratings, WPHT 1210 AM.

I'm a Temple alum, and I don't care.

Yes, they've made the tournament under Dawn Staley. They've even been a 4 or 5 seed I believe. They still have lost in the first or second round.

The Atlantic 10 has a long way to go in Women's B-Ball, as do most conferences. Truthfully, there are only a handful of solid programs in the country. Which brings me back to why this doesn't matter. It's going to take 20 years for the competitiveness of Women's Basketball to improve. The simple fact is that the sport is boring.

Just because the programming is there doesn't mean people are going to listen. This is just another thing for the "talk-radio nuts" in town to complain about.

But do people really care?

Seriously, how many listeners will there really be? Maybe Julius, but that's it.

I doubt many people will flock over to WPHT to listen to the Temple's women basketball games.

I know that a lot of people will not listen to the women's games but there will be some that do.

Why haven't you commented on what I wrote...?

I'm going to ask a fairly dumb question. Who, by chance, would be doing play by play on said games? Harry Donohue, perhaps?

Joe Heyer, who has been doing play-by-play on the internet for Temple women's basketball, will team with Temple Associate Athletic Director and former Owl coach Kristen Foley on the 5 commercial radio broadcasts left this season.

I'm not knocking their athletic program, but women's college basketball on AM radio?? :-\

If you have the right play by play voice and color commentary any game can sound exciting, but is there advertiser support. Dawn Staley has a great program going and the alumni base is huge but i do not know how supportive they are. Are there any other womens games on the radio?

Do all the local schools have radio outlets for their men's teams?

Well, it depends on what "local schools" you want to discuss. Just Division 1 programs? What about the smaller schools?

These are the basketball programs that I know of that are on radio..information via each school's website:

Delaware men's basketball: WRDX The River 94.7. Select games on WVUD 91.3 or WVUD2 Internet Radio.
Delaware women's basketball: 1290 The Ticket and WDOV 1410. Select games on WVUD 91.3 FM or WVUD2 Internet Radio.

Villanova men's basketball: WPEN 950
Villanova women's basketball: home games on Internet radio and TV...one away game on Internet radio.

Delaware State men's basketball: WAMS 1260 and WJRE 1600.
Delaware State women's basketball: not known...most likely no Internet or radio.

Saint Joseph's men's basketball: games among three stations: WHAT 1340, WNTP 990, and WFIL 560. All games on Internet radio as well.
Saint Joseph's women's basketball: appears to only have Internet radio.

LaSalle men's basketball: ESPN Radio 920 AM and Internet
LaSalle women's basketball: select games on Internet only

Penn men's basketball: WXPN 88.5 (four games not on radio at all)
Penn women's basketball: no radio or TV except for two games

If there are any schools I have missed or would like to add yourself...or any other information, please feel free to add on and/or correct me...without unprovoked bashing.
